England, 1783: In Island of Bones, Crowther’s haunting past is at last revealed. For years he has pursued his forensic studies - and the occasional murder investigation - far from his family estate. But an ancient tomb there will reveal a wealth of secrets. When laborers discover an extra body inside, the lure of the mystery brings Crowther home at last. Fans of both historical fiction à la Anne Perry and the intricate forensics of Tess Gerritsen will be delighted by Robertson’s latest.

If you could sum up Island of Bones in three words, what would they be?

    Wonderful Character Development

What did you like best about this story?

    Great visual depiction

What three words best describe Jenny Sterlin’s voice?

OK, but limited lower (mens) voices

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    NO. Neither

    Any additional comments?

I've read many mysteries taking place from the medieval times to Victorian. Robertson, is one of my top 3...Ariana Franklin, C.J. Sansome.. in their ability to make you feel you are actually with the characters and you experience what they do. The subtle nuances of historical detail...dress, transportation, food, language, etc. are spot on.

. Mister Slaughter opens in the emerging metropolis of New York City in 1702, and proceeds to take both Matthew and the reader on an unforgettable journey of horror, violence, and personal discovery. The journey begins when Matthew, now an apprentice problem solver for the London-based Herrald Agency, accepts an unusual and hazardous commission. Together with his colleague, Hudson Greathouse, he agrees to escort the notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum outside Philadelphia to the docks of New York.

What disappointed you about Mister Slaughter?

McGammon is overly impressed with his descriptions of things, events, and gore. His repetition of previous times, lengthy, moralistic conundrums, which play a minimal part of the story or characters, had me finally not finishing to the end. I tried each chapter hoping to move to a conclusion. I think he must sell books based on the number of words.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Certainly not another McGammon

What didn’t you like about Edoardo Ballerini’s performance?

    His performance is outstanding.

What character would you cut from Mister Slaughter?

    The author
