A young reporter on assignment from the San Francisco Observer... An older woman welcoming him into her magnificent family home that he has been sent to write about and that she must sell with some urgency... A chance encounter between two unlikely people... An idyllic night - shattered by horrific unimaginable violence, the young man inexplicably attacked - bitten - by a beast he cannot see in the rural darkness....

I was really looking forward to Anne Rice going back to the style and genre that made her a household name, but this one seems to have fallen flat. I was hoping she would make her debut into the world of werewolves as exciting and sexy as her witches and vampires. Maybe it gets better as the series continues but I wasn't sucked in like I was with her other books.

All over the world, brutal attacks are crippling entire cities. Jackson Oz, a young biologist, watches the escalating events with an increasing sense of dread. When he witnesses a coordinated lion ambush in Africa, the enormity of the violence to come becomes terrifyingly clear. With the help of ecologist Chloe Tousignant, Oz races to warn world leaders before it's too late. The attacks are growing in ferocity, cunning, and planning, and soon there will be no place left for humans to hide.

I so wanted to love this story. The idea is great but it falls short. It almost seems like the authors wanted to do much more but got lazy. The narrator did a heck of a job keeping me listening though.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

I have been a Stephen King fan since I started reading novels as a child. I was around 8 years old when I read Salem's Lot! This is definitely a favorite. No, it isn't a "scary" story but more suspense. The research was well done and incorporated into the story seamlessly. During the whole book I was wondering "What will happen once he does what he came to do?" I was not disappointed at the end. According to Mr. King's afterword, it was his son, Joe Hill, that helped come up with the ending. Brilliant!! I so hope this is made into a mini-series. It's probably too long and involved for a 2-3 hour movie. If you are a fan, get this book. You won't be disappointed!

Two thousand years ago, Mary Magdalene hid a set of scrolls in the French Pyrenees: the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, her version of the life of Jesus and the events of the New Testament. Protected by supernatural forces, these sacred scrolls could be uncovered only by a special seeker, one who fulfills the ancient prophecy of L'Attendu, the Expected One.

I read some of the other reviews and wonder why anyone would read something when they aren't interested in the subject matter. Some complained that this book rides on the wave of popularity of the DaVinci Code. If you think there are too many books like that out there, why read another one? I enjoyed this book as well as Dan Brown's. I like this author's take on the subject. I think the history is solid and how she wove the story together makes it very entertaining. I was happy to find that this is part of a series. I look forward to the next one. My advice to other readers is if you are looking for another Dan Brown, this isn't it. If you are looking for a good story that keeps you wanting more, this just might be a good fit. But as is the case with Dan Brown, you must keep an open mind.

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

I would give this book 10 stars just based on Samuel L Jackson's performance alone!! It is not for kids but for parents who have sat up with a toddler hell-bent on sucking the very life out of you through sleep deprivation. I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I got a copy for my sister who just had a baby. She also has a 3 year old that hasn't quite adjusted to not being the center of the universe anymore. When I saw it had been put in audio and narrated by Mr. Jackson, I had to have it! No one else could have captured the pure frustration portrayed by the author. Absolute perfection!!
