He was one of the greatest figures of his generation, and arguably the greatest baseball hitter of all time. But what made Ted Williams a legend, and a lightning rod for controversy in life and in death? New York Times best-selling author Leigh Montville delivers an intimate, riveting account of this extraordinary life.

My favorite book is the "Once and Future King" by T.H. White. It's a fictional account that chronicals King Arthur's life from his youth to his death. Montville's non-fiction book does the same with Ted Williams.

Like the author I have been a Ted Williams fan as long as I can remember. This biography doesn't just give us the bright side of an American Hero, it shows everything from his greatness as a ballplayer, friend and chariable fund raiser to his many flaws. I loved this book. Montville probably has enough stories left to write a sequal. I can't get enough.

When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he’s acutely aware of the dangers he’ll face and the hardships it will bring his wife, Chloe, and their newborn baby. And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a hero, but a healer. However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparently freak household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart.

The first 27 chapters was slow, laborious and repetitive. If it wasn't Scottoline I wouldn't have finished the book. Once it started, the fire it swept like an Arizona brushfire only to peter out at the end. She attempted to take on a number of important, timely issues but she never tied them them together thoroughly enough for me. I loved the effort but I expected a more cogent novel. The characters were great, there roles we identified and were carried out wonderfully but the storyline missed the mark.

I would recommend the abridged version of Don't Go. Scottoline's last few book have taken her out of her comfort zone from the Rosario and Associates novels, I commend her for taking the plunge and I hope she continues to write books that make us try to understand important issues we never face or want to think much about.I must admit I'd love to see Benny and the girls again.

Davidson was at his best conveying each character with distinction.

Will Robie is a master of killing. A highly skilled assassin, Robie is the man the U.S. government calls on to eliminate the worst of the worst - enemies of the state, monsters committed to harming untold numbers of innocent victims. No one else can match Robie's talents as a hitman...no one, except Jessica Reel. A fellow assassin, equally professional and dangerous, Reel is every bit as lethal as Robie. And now, she's gone rogue, turning her gun sights on other members of their agency.

The Hit is a big hit. It has great characters that are defined and developed to continue the Roby series. It captivates from beginning to the end, a must read. I couldn't put it down and I hated it to end. Roby's character is well defined and made more human without taking away his edge. The plot was different, intense and riveting.

Ron McLarty is vintage as Baldacci's reader and Cassidy is growing on me. The editor have gotten the sound effects to fit well with the authors intent without being overbearing.

I wasn't sure how he would close it but but he blindsided me and without giving anything away was justify fitting and unusual. While I'd like another dose of The Camel Club, I'll take Roby a few more times.

After reading about the training, discipline and preparation Seals must endure this book is out of its element. It mocks what I've come to expect from this elite fighting force.

The plot is weak, the characters under developed, too many unbelievable situations and too much dialogue. The ending was a farce. Not worth a credit.

I did like the narrator but he couldn't save this mess.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

I loved the opening act which set up this sappy book. I liked the ending act even if it wasn't the usual super duper wild ride we expect. Oh my, the middle is muddled. Too many underdeveloped characters, too many obvious hints, too many fights, too many needless deaths and too much whining. When I think of a book about academia I expect a ride with "Indiana Jones". I believe the abridged version would have been better.

I kept saying would you like some cheese with the whine Jack which is as silly as the endless pining of the main character.

Coben never developed the underlying question of what I thought was his intent. Should I act in a black or white world or one that grey permeate throughout. Idealist or Pragmatist?
I expected more. I liked the ending. It's unusual to read a novel that gives closure to a story and avoids questioning the authors typical need for the big surprise.

Harlan Coben is an amazing author, I love his work but I hope its Sixty Years before he pens another like this one.

How about one more hit of Myron and the gang please? Pretty please!

But now, Beecher White - the hero of the number one New York Times best seller The Inner Circle - discovers a killer in Washington, D.C. who's meticulously re-creating the crimes of these four men. Historians have branded them as four lone wolves. But what if they were wrong?

....to be continued is the best part of this novel. If I hadn't read "The Inner Circle" I'd have been lost at times.

It was an interesting thriller with many of the familiar Meltzer twists and turns. It was a good read but Brad has a way to go to match Dan Brown in the decoding and historical arena. The characters are wonderful, the narration is sweet but there was something I couldn't put my head around to made me think everything was there.

Still, I anxiously await the third novel in this series, Hadrian, Clementine, Marsh and Beecher need to fulfill this drama to a final crescendo.

An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island.

He's changed as fast as new technologies and makes you hold on tight giving you the option, either become a computer nerd or a secret operative. This real and plausible story shows another vulnerability our Government faces. To protect and defend has added a new meaning. I wasted a lot of gas going out of my way rather than going straight home at times. It's a winner!

From his street-savvy education on the mean streets of Washington, DC, to his military service and operations with ATF and DoD, danger has never been too far away. Like Ludlum, Van lustbader's books have complicated plots, unimaginable situations and good guys/ladies that are bad and vice versa. I would have preferred the abridged version. In spite of these remarks I await his next book with Jack, Allie and Annica. Unrequited love and the bond between a young girl and her mentor have a grip on me. Damn the predictible unpredictability, throw away characters and Allie 's sudden ability to become super teen. I'm a sucker for this series.

Will love endure, will Ally grow to have a series of her own, only time will tell.

Easy to listen to, usual twists and turns and Reacher's amazing insignificant trivia that continues to make the mighty Reacher the unusual hero that makes him different than others. I can't wait until his next venture comes to life. He's always in the wrong place at the right time.
