There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I wanted to try something a little different and, after reading lots of reviews, this is what I chose. Science-fiction and fantasy are my usual favorites and, at first, I was worried that this book might be too scary for me (I'm a big chicken), but it wasn't. It WAS a little creepy, but nothing worthy of nightmares. There was even a teeny bit of romance mixed in.

Overall, a very nice balance that would suit an avid reader of any genre, plus a top-notch performance.

After looking forward to this book for ages, I feel completely let down. Boring and redundant would be my best description. It didn't feel like it was even written by the same author.

On top of that, I wasn't crazy about the narrator. He did an OK job with the accents, but Tessa sounded rote and mechanical. I literally fell asleep TWICE during the first couple of chapters.

I honestly could not wait to get to the ending, which seemed to take an unnecessary amount of time. The "I love that one, but I also love the other one" line got really boring!

The first two books were very enjoyable but this installment falls way short of expectation.

I had to stop listening because the narrator's whiny, patronizing voice was driving me crazy. The book is narrated as if it is being read to inattentive 1st graders. It is difficult to enjoy any of the experience when you don't enjoy the narrator.

Living paycheck to paycheck in Paris, American book translator Chloe Underwood would give anything for some excitement and passion - even a little danger. So when she's offered a lucrative weekend gig translating at a business conference in a remote château, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.

Anne Stuart is a very capable writer, although it is difficult to tell based on this book. Her talents are clearly displayed in her "House of Rohan" series (not for the faint of heart). Skip this one, though.

Gideon Cross: As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction…my every desire…mine. My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful…except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity. We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession.…

It's almost the same story as 50 Shades. The female leads...Ana and Ava. The male leads...Christian and Gideon. Grey and Cross. Audi and Bentley (although WTG on the Bentley). Obsessed with transporting her everywhere. Exercise. Her parents not married. She's the only child of her father. Must. Stop. Now.

YIKES! The only significant difference in this saga is that the characters are less likable.

The one redeeming quality is the narrator. She is very good, especially for this kind of content.

Spare yourself the hours of deja vu (that I can't afford at my age) and find some other way to use your credits.

I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. If you have read 50 Shades, don't bother with this one. I honestly can't believe that the publisher has gotten away with printing a book so similar. The author even uses the word "mercurial".

Maybe this book is getting such high reviews because the audio version of 50 Shades got such poor ones. Based on those reviews, I did not purchase the audio version of 50 Shades, but went with the real book. I can see how the narrator's performance could make this seem like the better book, but I don't think it is.

There is nothing wrong with the narrator's performance, though. She did a fine job.

I like Angela Dawe's voice and think that the change to a narrator with a deeper voice came at a time in the series where the characters where naturally maturing. Maturing characters equals more mature voice. (Although I doubt that is the real reason the change was made.)

In general, this series seems to be maturing and improving at a time when it really should be concluding, but as long as they are this good, keep them coming!
