An excellent book to read in an afternoon. I'd highly recommend it. I've always enjoyed Weber's novels and he hasn't disappointed me this time. The reader is fabulous. My only complaint is when is the next in this series coming out. A definite read!
I have found that this book is mesmerizing. And to think it's the start of a new fantastic SiFi series. It is different, descriptive (which I love), has a fantastic storyline (on the order of Space Pirates, which you can purchase the audio verison here and get the book online on Amazon free) but much much more. Please do yourself a favor, if you enjoy reading a great story plot, lots of action, love stories, get this book. Well worth the credit. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.
Having read the first book and found it innovative, descriptive, and totally being hooked, I proceeded to Book 2. This was even better. If any of you have read Space Pirates, written in the 50's, you will be absolutely hooked on this series. It has everything a SiFi fan would love, plus even those who aren't into SiFi, will thoroughly enjoy this book. Although Audible/Amazon has only put two of Stephen Bennett's books on audio, you can get Book #3 to read. Hopefully, soon, Audible will have #3 on audio. Please do yourself a favor and purchase these books. They are will worth the money.
I remember reading this book in high school when it first came out. I was totally captivated. But several years later when I tried to find it again, I couldn't remember the title or who wrote it, I just couldn't find it. Now after all these years, on Amazon of all places, I saw a mention of this book which gave a description, and the book is free on Amazon. I immediately got it for my Kindle and lo and behold it told me it was also available on Audible. Remember this book is written in the 50s so adjust your thinking accordingly. Tom Godwyn is an excellent author, has written some books besides this one and most are found free on Amazon. So enjoy, this is an exciting science fiction book that's well worth the money.
I can't get over how more enthralling this version of Dune is. I love the way that the narrators interact and overall this version is the best of the Dune series yet. Yep, I purchased the others years ago, but I wish that they would do all of them this way. Listen to it, you definitely won't be disappointed.
Thanks Audible for providing us with this book and its sequel. What most people don't realize is that this book was pubished in 1932 and its sequel, After Worlds Collide was published in 1933. They both have held up fairly well too. So feel free to spend your money, as these are books you'll enjoy. But just remember when they were written and adjust your thinking accordingly.
It was in the 70's and I was entralled by PBS's series on the books about I, Claudius. After all this time, I found this book and it's companion entertaining, engrossing, and full of intrigue, murder, and suspense. I highly recommend this book and its companion for those who enjoy reading historial novels. Robert Graves really outdid himself. Please read it, you won't be disappointed.
I'm sorry, but I just couldn't get into this book. I found it to be boring and trite. After the first few chapters, it just didn't pick up speed in the story. I just can't recommend this book as a good read. Wish I could, but it just couldn't hold my interest.
First of all, let me say I hate prejudice of any kind. This book shows a young boy trying to come to grips with his sexual preferences with today's society of morons. Yep, morons. It was heart wrenching at times for me, when listening to his coping with this. I did enjoy this book very much and yep, would recommend it for others to read. Especially our society's "morons" who keep insisting everyone needs to fit "their mold". Please read this book, it's quite entertaining, educational, and at times will make you laught and cry.
I'm 72, so when I was 13 I went to stay with an aunt in Nashville, Tennessee. I was bred, born, and raised in Chicago by a family who was totally colored blind. I was appalled with what I saw. I just couldn't believe how they treated afro-americans. So when I read this book I cried, laughed, and remembered that trip so long ago. I hope Kathryn Stockett keeps on writing books, as she's such a gifted author. I also hope another book will be written about The Help, so I can find out about Minnie, who reminded me of my grandmother, and all the other characters that I grew to love when I listened to this book. As for the reading, it was fantastic, I was right there in the book with the characters. It was wonderful. There should be more books read this way with the actors, for that's what they are, reading in this manner. My sincere thanks to the author, and to the actors who read this book, for bringing these characters alive, and bringing back all those memories of my youth and especially my visit to Nashville and how glad I am that the sights I saw are no more.
