I'm 72, so when I was 13 I went to stay with an aunt in Nashville, Tennessee. I was bred, born, and raised in Chicago by a family who was totally colored blind. I was appalled with what I saw. I just couldn't believe how they treated afro-americans. So when I read this book I cried, laughed, and remembered that trip so long ago. I hope Kathryn Stockett keeps on writing books, as she's such a gifted author. I also hope another book will be written about The Help, so I can find out about Minnie, who reminded me of my grandmother, and all the other characters that I grew to love when I listened to this book. As for the reading, it was fantastic, I was right there in the book with the characters. It was wonderful. There should be more books read this way with the actors, for that's what they are, reading in this manner. My sincere thanks to the author, and to the actors who read this book, for bringing these characters alive, and bringing back all those memories of my youth and especially my visit to Nashville and how glad I am that the sights I saw are no more.

Thanks Audible for providing us with this book and its sequel. What most people don't realize is that this book was pubished in 1932 and its sequel, After Worlds Collide was published in 1933. They both have held up fairly well too. So feel free to spend your money, as these are books you'll enjoy. But just remember when they were written and adjust your thinking accordingly.

It was in the 70's and I was entralled by PBS's series on the books about I, Claudius. After all this time, I found this book and it's companion entertaining, engrossing, and full of intrigue, murder, and suspense. I highly recommend this book and its companion for those who enjoy reading historial novels. Robert Graves really outdid himself. Please read it, you won't be disappointed.

I'm sorry, but I just couldn't get into this book. I found it to be boring and trite. After the first few chapters, it just didn't pick up speed in the story. I just can't recommend this book as a good read. Wish I could, but it just couldn't hold my interest.

First of all, let me say I hate prejudice of any kind. This book shows a young boy trying to come to grips with his sexual preferences with today's society of morons. Yep, morons. It was heart wrenching at times for me, when listening to his coping with this. I did enjoy this book very much and yep, would recommend it for others to read. Especially our society's "morons" who keep insisting everyone needs to fit "their mold". Please read this book, it's quite entertaining, educational, and at times will make you laught and cry.

An excellent book to read in an afternoon. I'd highly recommend it. I've always enjoyed Weber's novels and he hasn't disappointed me this time. The reader is fabulous. My only complaint is when is the next in this series coming out. A definite read!

I don't like vampire books, but when Audible had an offering of "first book in a series" at an incredibly inexpensive price, of course I bit. Sneaky audible books. It's all their fault that I'm now hooked on Sookie Stackhouse vampire mysteries. These books are excellent. I didn't fall asleep at all, which I'm prone to do at times. Now I will have to buy all of the series just to find out what's going on. I highly recommend these books. But warning: be careful when Audible has another offering such as this, you may get hooked too. So enjoy this book, I certainly did. And thanks Audible, keep up the good work.

I'm currently listening to this book. It's quite difficult to understand the characters due to the fact that the reader is quite heavy on the Scottish accents. You can barely understand him. I realize he's into the character, but if you can't understand what they are saying, well....... Hopefully, it will improve, but so far not too good.

I purchased the hard cover of this book and was looking forward to hearing it. Unfortunately the reader sounds like he's trying to lick the mike and gargle at the same time. The book, very detailed, delves in background at first and then hones in to the finish. Although some may think the finish isn't the best, I found it quite enjoyable. If you want to put up with a very, very, poor reader, this book is quite enjoyable.
