Tom Wolfe's best-selling modern classic tells the story of Sherman McCoy, an elite Wall Street bond trader who has it all: wealth, power, prestige, a Park Avenue apartment, a beautiful wife, and an even more beautiful mistress - until one wrong turn sends Sherman spiraling downward into a humiliating fall from grace. A car accident in the Bronx involving Sherman, his girlfriend, and two young lower-class black men sets a match to the incendiary racial and social tensions of 1980s New York City.

It should be called the tedium. Overly wordy and overly dramatic, no character you can cheer for, only words words words

After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

    Any additional comments?

The tough questions weren't addressed. Why did he slip through the medical and mental health care system after all those suicide gestures? How does the threat of lawsuits rule the decisions and policies of hospitals? Those are the real stories of import to our society, completely ignored. And the "dig" flaw in narration is no small point, someone made a bad decision to let this go to market as is.

On a rainy November day, police detectives Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are summoned to a mysterious traffic accident: a woman has fallen from a pedestrian bridge onto a car driving underneath. According to a witness, the woman may have been pushed. The investigation leads Pia and Oliver to a small village, and the home of the victim, Rita Cramer. On a September evening eleven years earlier, two seventeen-year-old girls vanished from the village without a trace.

Would you try another book from Nele Neuhaus and/or Robert Fass?

    Nah

What was most disappointing about Nele Neuhaus’s story?

Ridiculous twists and turns with not one character you can buy into

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Narrated it like a soap opera, over the top with drumroll and all

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This falls right behind The Help in my all time favorites list. Great plot told well. I was engaged the whole time and the end left me thinking days after I'd finished it.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, I don't like this author and her fairy tail, unrealistic, predictable romances. By the reviews I thought she'd written a real mystery/suspense this time. She did, for that very small first portion, then right back to her formula writing style.

The year is 1984 and the city is Tokyo.

A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver's enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 - "Q" is for "question mark". A world that bears a question....

What would have made 1Q84 better?

I don't know if the storyline was ruined in the translation or if Japanese audiences expect such bizarre writing techniques. The never ending unrelated details where so distacting you can't find the essence of the story

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

I couldn't even get through this book. I tried skipping ahead, tried it at 2x speed, nothing worked to keep me in the book

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narrators did as good a job as they could with the material they were given.

What character would you cut from 1Q84?

Too many to mention. In addition, the sequence of events was so distracting you couldn't piece it together.

One of America’s most popular authors, Jodi Picoult has earned a reputation for crafting riveting, topical fiction. In House Rules she examines how being different can have dire consequences. Teenager Jacob Hunt has Asperger’s syndrome. A forensic science wizard, he follows his scanner to show up at crime scenes and give law enforcement officials his advice.

Its hard to believe the author can understand what is going on in the autistic boys mind, but once you get past that, its a great book, and an easy listen
