I really enjoyed "Dies the Fire" so listening to the second book was a must. Once again SM Sterling captured my attention and I was glad to follow more of the story. I love a book that once you are finished, you find you miss the characters and wonder what they are up to! I am officially hooked! I have already ordered "Meeting at Corvallas".

I enjoyed this one more than the last two. JR does a great job revisiting the characters we fell for when the series began. This book is full of story! The last two felt like she was strong on plot but the story was watered down to fill the pages. I loved this book!

Former SEAL Michael Harmon, Team Name ''Ghost'', retired for service injuries, is not enjoying college life. But things are about to change, if not for the better. When he sees a kidnapping, a series of, at the time logical, decisions leave him shot to ribbons and battling a battalion of Syrian commandos with only the help of three naked co-eds who answer to the names ''Bambi,'' ''Thumper'' and ''Cotton Tail.'

    WOW! I loved this book!

Yes, there is some pretty disturbing sex and even rape, so if you cannot stomach that sort of thing, then skip it.

I love military books real and fiction, but the true stories seem to all but neuter the real life heroes or vaguely imply they even have a sex life, and the so called romance/erotica try to describe an "operation" and have no clue what an elite soldier does as to sound so wrong it's just stupid.

Elite soldiers are elite because they are just wired differently than the average guy. Mike Ghost is all that with a few wires crossed when it comes to his sex life.

Ghost is the first of the Paladin of Shadows series. There are 6 books so far but Audible has only the one book! Now I have to figure out where to get the other books...I'm hooked.

Oh, I so wanted this to be better than it was! The Narration was horrible! About mid way through the book J. D. Hart sounded like a 6th grader reading a text book before his class. He had no inflection, no emotion and each line after line, paragraph after paragraph sounded the same. No! No! No!

I really enjoyed the story. I LOVED the sex! The sex was done just the way I like it!
No, whiny overemotional virgins in this book, just real women and real men (kick @ss men!) having real gritty sex! There was a little too much introspection and reflection during/after the last big sex scene but still wonderful.

I think it must be difficult to write about hard core military men who fall in love. So many authors forget that we fall for these elite soldiers because they are the elite, they are willing to do what few men are able to do. Often times authors take these rugged men and turn them into teddy bears as soon as they fall in love. Well, that just ruins the fantasy!
Mrs. Hamilton did not ruin this love story buy turning the man into a wimp!

I think I will find the book in print and reread the story adding my own narration in my mind. If it is ever re-released with a performance by Scott Brick, Phil Gigante, Mark Boyette, Eric Dove, Jim Frangione or almost anyone else, I would cough up another credit in a heartbeat!!

You know, the sex really was good, I might have to listen to it again and just skip to the good parts...

About an hour into it, you realize that these guys give up a lot to be the best. They can't have a normal life. They are not "normal" people either, otherwise you and I and the "dude" down the street could do the things they are trained to do. Their life isn't a video game, there isn't a "do-over button". The book is well written and completely engaging.

If you liked the writing, you must listen to "No Easy Day" by Brian Castner. It's a well written book about an Air Force EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Technician and how his life has been affected and changed by his missions in the Air Force. One of the ways the book was so compelling was how his story unfolded. The story moves around the timeline of events in a way that hooks you like a good mystery.

Having inspired a classic film and Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny is Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life—and mutiny—on a Navy warship in the Pacific theater. It was immediately embraced upon its original publication as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of the Second World War. In the intervening half century, this gripping story has become a perennial favorite, selling millions throughout the world, and claiming the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Not my typical choice, but I just couldn't turn it off! Lots of Navy jargon but no so much that you can't follow it, it just made it more authentic. I was surprised by my reaction to the ending. Makes me want to listen to it all over again.

Brian Castner served three tours of duty in the Middle East, two of them as the commander of an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit in Iraq. Days and nights he and his team - his brothers - would venture forth in heavily armed convoys from their Forward Operating Base to engage in the nerve-racking yet strangely exhilarating work of either disarming the deadly improvised explosive devices that had been discovered, or picking up the pieces when the alert came too late.

My husband handed me the hard cover book and just said "Read it." I did. I smiled, I cried and I laughed out loud. I couldn't put it down. When I looked for it on Audible, I told my husband it was available. He said, "If Brian is the narrator, order it!" I did. I have listened to it twice. It is haunting and moving and truly one of my favorite books. It is written like EOD Tech's live, raw and gritty. There is plenty of fowl language, but it is written in a way that seems to fit not just put in there for shock value.

The story is not written from beginning to end, it flashes back and forth to carefully reveal the changes Brian has gone through. (from training, to deployments, to time at home with the family, to civilian work and life) In print, the time breaks are easier to follow because there is a very visual separation between events. I think if Brian had used certain background noise or music to denote each event, it would be easier for the listener to put the timeline together. Nonetheless, it is not difficult to follow once you understand this.

    More than worth the credit!

Jane Sagan: Soldier. Killer. Lover. Dreamer. In John Scalzi's best-selling Old Man's War series of science-fiction novels, we see this warrior woman as the other characters see her - silent and strong, from the outside. But now The Sagan Diary shows us Sagan from another point of view: her own, as she prepares to leave military life and join her new husband and adopted daughter on a colony world.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Hum, this is a tough one. I enjoyed the book. I thought the narrator did a good job and it was well written. I just didn't like the story. If kids are going to kill each other for sport or survival, their mindset can't be so normal for me to believe in it. I wasn't so much disturbed by kids killing kids, it just didn't register with me. I guess they would have to be way more twisted or remorseful or...something. I would like to see the movie, I hear it's great! Well, I heard the book was great too...I'm really torn...

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.
