"good but a bit of a repetition"
I love Eckhart Tolle's books, but having read the Power of now and A New Earth I found some of this things wore pure repetition of earlier books, but still his words and the way he says them bring me a big sense of calmness and peace
"Love it"
I love this series, what can I say. I rather hear about Rand, Perrin and Matt. The parts with more women caracter somehow seam to me less interesting. In any case, the story continues to be amazing, and specially Michael Kramer narrating is some of the best I have ever heard.
"Slow and descriptive"
I guess a lot of people like this kind of reading, but not me. This is a very slow book, he will spend endless minutes describing things, the descriptions are interesting but at some point its enough.
At least for me, I'm interested when the description is detail of something real, when I read something I know its not real, spending 30 minutes describing chemical reactions and all sorts of details is quite boring.
There is an underlining interesting idea behind all of it, and that is the only reason I read it, but the book did not give me any new interesting insight on this idea.
"Great Book, Excellent narrator"
It has been a few couple of books that I havent encountered something I couldent drop. This is an interesting story, interesting caracter, fun and fast paced. You won't regreat it!
"Very shallow for my taste"
Just to put it in perspective I'm 31 years old. I've read a lot of great reviews so I was curious. The story is entertaining, and the idea of a totalitarian governament forcing people to fight each other was not bad. But in my view, most of what happends is about people fighting each other, while I was hopping for a bit more on the issue of the totalitarian governament, what happened behind and all. I've seen now that only the second book explores this part, but having read a whole book to get here, I'm not sure its worth while to begin a new book and having the risk to remain half way on the intrigue. Something that seams design more to hook you, then to really have a great story.
"Keep Away, this book has NOTHING!"
I never understood why people are so fascinated with Steve Jobs. Yes, he revolutionized many industries, and Yes I think its cool that the Iphone exists. But do we really want our heroes to be people that treat other people badly?
After many months I read this book because it was advised to me by a really smart person. So since innovation is something that interests me, I tough it was important to read it.
The thing is. Is not only that I dont admire Jobs at all, as he was a terrible father, friend and boss. But this is one of the first business related books that I have read and learn absolutely nothing. The only thing I can take from Jobs is that Less is more (no news here) and he was very good at that.
Apart from this, frankly, I dont see much I can learn from reading this book.
"Boring"
I am giving a rating because all rating counts. Maybe I just dont like this kind of book, but I found that the story goes really slowly for most of the book, and then everything happens in the lest 20% of it. I heard this from another friend, so I think I am not the only one.
"Entrepreneurs, START HERE!"
If you are considering opening a business, have one, work for one START HERE.
Why is this book so important? We are getting into the era of small entrepreneurs, you are reading this you are most likely one. The biggest mistake small entrepreneurs do is that they fall in love with their idea, invest a lot of money, time and energy in it and most times fail. Worst of all, they dont learn from their failure.
This book is about how to quickly (very quickly), learn from your failures and change your strategy (if necessary) or just adapt and try a different take.
I started my company with 500 euros and in 5 months have 30k euros in sales. So yes, its possible to try something small with a Minimum Viable Product and test if your assumptions are correct before spending all your money.
This and Adwords for Dummies are what I think the basic books for starting entrepreneurs (and even for more experienced ones). And no, Adwords for Dummies is not for Dummies!
"I expected more"
This is a good book. Dont get em wrong, if you are planning to do a bakery, or any other business as such it could be very usefull. If you are a little farther on the learning curve, you might find there are only one or two good ideas about the book. When he talkes about small businesses, I think he talks a lot about people that open a business out of a particular skill they have (a shop owner, bakery, bar, restaurant,.. ). If you are already an Entrepreneur, and you opened a business because you saw a particular market opportunity that you understand, I guess this book is not that much for you.
I took from this book two great important points.
1. Even if you are a small business, you should make a strategic plan, think about all the roles in the organization, define the functions.
2. Management by delegation vs management by abdication. He is quite write that us small business owners sometimes hire somebody with experience that will do it all for us, and dont look closely at all they do, this is management by abdication. Management by delegation would first to see exactly what should be done and how it should be done in each position, and then delegating it to somebody, with all very clear rules and guidelines to follow.
3. Mesure everything. On the internet, this would be a kind of A/B testing. Mesure the effects of all the key factors in your business, to know what works and what doesn't.
I'm not sure if its worth reading the whole book to get this tree points, even if I didnt like the book so much, it was actually important for me that I read it.
hope this review helps you decided.
"Wow, what a great read, and what an insight!"
I decided to read Delivering Happiness after reading something that made me do a strategic chart for my small internet business. On my goals, I found myself writing that my employees happiness would be on my top two priorities, since this book was on my lift for some time, I tough I had to read it if I wanted to make that come true.
This book has literally wowed me. I learned a lot about delivering happiness to employees, but I learned another perspective that I have never tough about, delivering happiness to costumers.
This book is a great read, its funny, interesting but most of all has a fresh take on the corporate view in life, a way to make a difference thru work and sales
it will be one of my top advices on business books!
