  • Wizard's First Rule: Sword of Truth, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (34 hrs and 10 mins)
    • By Terry Goodkind
    • Narrated By Sam Tsoutsouvas
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, Richard Cypher encounters a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, in his forest sanctuary. She seeks his help...and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

Andrew says: "Better than the show"
    "Great story, fantanstic narrator"

This was my first choice for a fiction audio listen. I was a little worried about a narrated fiction because my own imagination is usually better, but I was not disappointed. In fact, I'm half-way in love with Sam Tsoutsouvas' voice! He narrated this story beautifully, made the characters and story absolutely come alive! I highly recommend this audio book for anyone who enjoys a good escape into another world with the bonus of a wonderful guide found in Tsoutsouvas's voice.

  • Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Dan Ariely
    • Narrated By Simon Jones

In a series of illuminating, often surprising experiments, MIT behavioral economist Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. Blending everyday experience with groundbreaking research, Ariely explains how expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible, seemingly illogical forces skew our reasoning abilities.

Stephen says: "Well researched, well written, & well read"
    "Excellent book"

Though non-fiction is not usually my first choice, I was thoroughly delighted with this book. It is insightful and thought-provoking, amusing and entertaining. In my opinion, this is required reading for anyone who is genuinely interested in better understanding (and hopefully improving) themselves, their world, and their lives overall. Very well written and highly recommended!

  • Temple of the Winds: Sword of Truth, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (28 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Terry Goodkind
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The dangerous, fanatical Imperial Order, under the leadership of the power-mad Emperor Jagang and his multitude of demonic underlings, unleashes a deadly plague. To find a cure, Richard Cypher and his beloved Kahlan Amnell must seek out the legendary Temple of the Winds, a fortress of evil sealed away for three thousand years. But the path of the Seeker of Truth is never an easy one - even if he can reach the Temple at all, there is no guarantee he'll ever return.

Danielle says: "Good book, poor narration"
    "One-Man Drama Team"

I was quite impressed with this one. Mr. Hill is an effective drama team all by himself! Similar to the old radio stories back before television took over the effort of imagination - he threw his voice, covered the mic, was not afraid to actually clear his throat and laughed evilly. He sent chills down my back and made me giggle right along with the story. Not everyone can put the right tone of voice into the characters, but I think Mr. Hill did a wonderful job. I thoroughly enjoyed his representation of these characters. I'm not old enough to remember radio as the main indoor pastime, but I know enough to value a dramatic picture painted in my mind so well by the voice of another.

I've read the other comments on this narration, and while I agree the name pronunciations were annoying at first, everyone speaks differently, so I got used to it. I knew who he was talking about and it really didn't make any difference to the story line. It should be a crime to completely miss out on the great story and the fantastic drama just because of a to-ma-to/to-mah-to issue. Terribly narrowminded, in my opinon, and their loss. The lack of proper tone to convey the characters' intent is much more distracting from the story than a pronunciation variation.

I will seek out other books Mr. Hill has narrated just to see what he will do with the story! Hail Dick Hill!

  • Midwinter

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Matthew Sturges
    • Narrated By Kevin Pariseau

Mauritaine was a war hero, a Captain in the Seelie Army. Then he was accused of treason and sentenced to life without parole at Crere Sulace, a dark and ancient prison in the mountains, far from the City Emerald. But now the Seelie Queen - Regina Titania herself - has offered him one last chance to redeem himself, an opportunity to regain his freedom and his honor.

    Joslin says: "Enjoyable"

Overall I have really enjoyed this book, but I may have enjoyed it more if I'd read it myself. The narrator, Kevin Pariseau, has a pleasant voice, articulates well, and does an excellent job of creating character voices! The first few chapters, though, were difficult to follow. His speech was alternately stilted and then rushed, pausing in the strangest places in what has to be the same sentence or thought. It seems as though he hadn't read the book before he began narrating. By about a third of the way, he got on track, and I enjoyed the story heartily. Recommended listen.
