"Same caliber as Baldacci"
This was an excellent book and very well written. I thought the narration was top-notch and the accents believable. I would put Gerritson right up there with Baldacci. I actually enjoyed this book more than Baldacci's latest work, which also focused on abused government defense contractors. Gerritson does a fabulous job of weaving in the plot through so many different angles. You're never really sure who is good or bad until the end. Loved it and can't wait for her next one!
"Amazing story and characters"
I loved this book from the very beginning to the closing word! Abigail was one of the most unique characters I've read in a long time and Brooks was the perfect man for her. The storyline kept me hooked!
"Hard to put down"
I've read all of Lisa Gardner's novels and LOVE when a new one comes out. She's definitely one of my favorites! D.D. Warren is a hard cop but I've really enjoyed watching her grow into someone you would love to have on your team. I think that Kirsten Potter does such an amazing job portraying her. Whether it's more than one narrator or just her (as in this novel), the performance is always amazing. This book is so worth the price. I honestly couldn't put it down (or for audible terms, turn it off). No words for it other than fabulous!!! I can't wait for Gardner's next novel.
"Remove 1/3 of book and it would have been amazing"
The story and premise were great. The narrator was one of the best I've listened to and did an amazing job with accents and capturing the essence of each character. My only complaint with this book was the length. Easily, one-third of the book (or more) could have been left out and it would have been so much better. However, I loved the ending. It was worth the wait.
"The narrator needs to retire!"
I love Michael Connelly and Harry Bosch, but Len Carious needs to retire. I kept wanting to clear my throat for him. I know Harry is getting older, but the narrator is too old sounding even for Harry. He does a poor job with voices and has so many unnatural pauses, mostly because I think he can't catch his breath. Honestly, he needs to retire well before Harry! Other than the narrator, it was a great novel. It's time for me to just read the novel if this narrator continues to be selected to be the voice of Harry Bosch.
"I'm sorry that I didn't finish this one..."
This book made me feel like a female wrote it trying to come off as a male. How many references to "dick" can you take in one book? I love saucy romance novels, but I didn't make it to the end on this one, as much as I tried. Maybe things would have changed, but I was mega disappointed and not at all engaged.
"Great collection and deal!"
After recently finding Michael Connelly, I'm working my way through his books. They are all outstanding, even though I haven't "read" them in chronological order. Although Len Cariou does a nice job narrating, I much prefer Peter Giles who narrates the Mickey Haller books. I think Len makes Harry Bosch sound too old and doesn't do well with the female voices. Peter Giles flawlessly transitions between characters. Regardless, I can't wait to listen to Connelly's remaining books.
"Hard to put down"
I listened to this almost non-stop for two days, which speaks to how it keeps you hooked. Lisa Gardner has a wonderful way of weaving a complex story and developing multi-faceted characters. My only complaint is the ending. After developing such a great story, it was all wrapped up in a somewhat nondramatic fashion. Overall, I can't wait to download another one from this author.
"Couldn't put it down"
This is the first book by Lisa Gardner that I've "read" and I'm so glad I selected it. I loved the tough Rambo-like heroine and the dual narrators were fantastic. I think I now have a new favorite author!
"Great story and characters"
I listened to this book every opportunity I had. I couldn't put it down. The story had so many layers and depth and the characters were well-developed. My only criticism was not being able to totally feel the romance between Laura and her husband, but that wasn't the focus and Dean Koontz isn't a romance writer. I loved it!
"Struggled to complete it"
I've read most books by Preston and Child and have enjoyed them all, but this one was difficult to complete. The pace was slow and I just couldn't get into it.
