Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

"Not as good as I had hoped"
    Overall

I did not like this as much as I hoped. Not as good as my recent listens like The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches by Robert Stanek. Now those are excellent. This seemed excessively violent and pulpy.

After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

Will says: "Excellent -- one of the best!"
"Action, adventure and plenty of mystery!"
    Overall

The Kingdoms and the Elves books by Robert Stanek are my all time favorites. Better than Harry Potter. Better than Narnia. Better than anything else.

I have read all four books and all four books in the sequel series called In the Service of Dragons. These are by far the best books I have read. Full of adventure and action and mystery.

Start here because this is where it all begins. Then read books 2, 3, and 4. Then go on the In the Service of Dragons. You are going to love it!
