Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

What a delight to listen to these four talented narrators. This story held my attention from start to finish. Well written, fun, touching, and inciteful, true to each character in every way. I loved this audio book so much that I couldn't allow myself to see the movie for fear of losing my tender vision of each character and my overall impressioons. I understand that the movie was excellent, but still I don't think it could possibly top this!

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

The review of this book lead me to expect much; unfortunately, it did not meet them. I admit I care little for "fantasy" so perhaps I am not the best judge.

This was a nice story, but somehow, fell a little flat. I couldn't quite grasp the way this character was so much in her shell (even after it was explained).

I read and highly enjoyed this wonderful book. I could not resist purchasing the audio version, and happy I am that I did! What a delightful, fanciful story. Imagine 7 months in a lifeboat with Mr Parker. The main character captured my heart from Chapter one to the very end when he offered a cookie to the two Japanese diplomats from whom he had received the cookies! Sweet. The narrator was just perfect, I will probably listen again in the future.

It is 1803, six years since Elizabeth and Darcy embarked on their life together at Pemberley, Darcy’s magnificent estate. Their peaceful, orderly world seems almost unassailable. Elizabeth has found her footing as the chatelaine of the great house. They have two fine sons, Fitzwilliam and Charles. Elizabeth’s sister Jane and her husband, Bingley, live nearby; her father visits often; there is optimistic talk about the prospects of marriage for Darcy’s sister Georgiana. And preparations are under way for their much-anticipated annual autumn ball.

When a whale beaches itself on the shore of the remote coastal town of Paradise Deep, the last thing any of the townspeople expect to find inside it is a man, silent and reeking of fish but remarkably alive. The discovery of this mysterious person, soon christened Judah, sets the town scrambling for answers as its most prominent citizens weigh in on whether he is man or beast, blessing or curse, miracle or demon.

Very poor writing (crummy) and the narration, in my view, ruined the listening experience. I felt the story lacked any sense of refinement and the crudeness unnecessary, no sense of feeling developed for any of the characters. I couldn't finish it.

Would you try another book from Michael Morpurgo and/or Dan Stevens?

    Most likely not.

Has War Horse turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but in fairness this book may have been better if I had not gotten the abridged version. It felt like there was so much missing. My rule is never read (or listen to) abridged books.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Not really, but didn't add to it either.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It lacked that certain something which attracts me to characters in a well written book.

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.
