A starship hurtles through the emptiness of space. Its destination — unknown. Its purpose — a mystery. Now, one man wakes up. Ripped from a dream of a new home — a new planet and the woman he was meant to love in his arms — he finds himself wet, naked, and freezing to death. The dark halls are full of monsters but trusting other survivors he meets might be the greater danger.

    A. Alegria says: "very good sci fi thriller"

Classic Bear. Was kept interested throughout. The genetic theme was well thought out and written, and the characters fit the story, although as always for me the narration is key. Dan John Miller did a fine job.

Anderson Lake is a company man, AgriGen's Calorie Man in Thailand. Under cover as a factory manager, Anderson combs Bangkok's street markets in search of foodstuffs thought to be extinct, hoping to reap the bounty of history's lost calories. There, he encounters Emiko...Emiko is the Windup Girl, a strange and beautiful creature. One of the New People, Emiko is not human; instead, she is an engineered being, creche-grown and programmed to satisfy the decadent whims of a Kyoto businessman.

    "Exquisite work"

There is a reason The Windup Girl is up for awards, and I look forward to Poalo Bacigalupi's future work.
A science fiction tale based in the future tropics, and was hooked from the beginning. Jonathan Davis added a great deal to keeping listeners engaged.

Anax thinks she knows her history. She'd better. She's sat facing three Examiners and her gruelling four-hour examination has just begun. After the Great War in 2077, her island Republic emerged from a ruined world. Its citizens were safe - but never free. They lived in complete isolation from the outside. Until one man rescued a girl from the sea, and shook the very foundations on which the Republic was built. It was a time where ancient philosophical questions had collided dramatically with the march of technology.

    Kelly says: "OUTSTANDING!!"

A great book for fans of artificial intelligence and near future worlds. Well written, and also an excellent narration
