"Love it, but there is no conclusion to series."
I just wanted to warn anyone who can't handle a series which is unfinished, and may never be finished. The book is great, and the Audible version excellent as well. Sadly the death of Andre Norton put the end of this series somewhere (hopefully) in the future. Mercedes Lackey is a wonderful fantasy author, and I've read and thoroughly everything she's put her hand to (that I could get my hands on). This is a great story for fantasy book lovers. It has all you want, magic, creatures, love, iintrigue, imagination galore, etc. I just hope we find out what actually happens to the characters in this story who are left without any resolution. My imagination isn't good enough - I need the professionals! If Audible has any power encouraging authors, please do so. The entire Valdemar series should be in a quality Audible format. The Colegium Chronicles isn't the best way to start listening to her Valdemar books. (and Arrows of the Queen is 1/3 of a story).
"Not much progress."
I really enjoyed the first book, but this installment didn't progress the story a great deal. It's as if the publisher wanted to stretch two books into a trilogy. That said, it is well written and interesting. If you enjoyed the first one, don't expect much from this. Hopefully the next book will resolve some issues or develop the story more.
"OK. Just OK."
This had a lot of potential, but it was slow paced, and the characters could have been better developed. The world, and the concept is creative is worth a try, but this isn't one I would recommend. It's a good book to get on sale. Maybe the print version is better.
"Creepy, fun & provoking"
What an amazing series. The perfect man, an imperfect woman, and a really, really, really bad guy. Enjoy being disturbed.
"If you have to pick one...this is it!"
I've been reading and/or listening to this series in order, so obviously I like them all. This one, however, is just PERFECT! The story has all of the classic components of romance, mystery, fun, and suspense of the series, but it has another element of intrigue and heart that makes the novel irresistable. Enjoy!
"The story is awesome & survives the narration"
I agree with the others. The narrator makes the characters sound like idiots. That said, this is an awesome story, which if properely read, would be even more entertaining, funny & interesting. Any book which uses a reference from the Blues Brothers Movie is OK in my book. I look forward to the others in the series which use a different narrator.
"Quality Roberts. A Good Read"
Excellent character development and detail. Don't expect to be surprised, but do expect to be thoroughly entertained.
"Yes it's short. It's still good."
Don't be afraid to get it -- just don't pay full price for it! The story is just as fun as the others have been, with humor, twists & turns. I'd rather a complete book than one that's been padded. Use your credits, or wait for a sale. I really like the narrator of these books, too. I've tried reading the books, but they have more color through the audible recording because of the many voices portrayed.
"THIS SERIES SHOULD GO ON FOREVER!"
I don't care how many murders need to happen, but this series need to go on and on and on. What a great way to get away from the world: Russian Romance, Jewish Humor, and people who just like to get killed around the heroine! There is only one more book in the series after this, so savor it. The author has more to write, but the published dumped her years ago. Check the net.
"Prepare for belly laughs in this one!"
Jewish humor. Russian romance. What more do you need? How about a great mystery and a bundle of laughs at life? Enjoy. There's more to come.
