I am re-reading the series because I enjoyed it so much. I thought I'd add the audio to my collection. The story is still exciting and unpredictable, but I don't think the narration adds much. Dufries is good with adding vocal excitement to his narration, but there is a whine-factor to his style that takes away from the story. He did the same to the Enduring Flame Series. I know Pendragon is a teenager and they are supposed to whine, but his translation is more of a two-year old's.
Stay with the book, unless audio is your only option. If you have a Kindle, buy it first, and then get the audio for $3.99.
While the story stands on its own, it helps to fall into the story from the beginning. The tale is colorful, unexpected, suspenseful, and memorable.
If you're this far in the series, you enjoy these fun books as much as I. It's a whe new crazy venue, and Becky is growing...slowly. (Ok, Minnie is probably maturing more quickly.) Just beware, there is a cliff hanger ending, and the follow up book better be soon!
I can't tell whether it was the narrator's soft voice or the story's content, but this book inspired me to find another book to listen to. I tried several different times. Just too slow. It works great as a lullaby if you're having trouble falling asleep!
Mercedes Lackey can always be relied upon to spin a clever tale. I love her strong female characters, ability to weave a fantastical world, and writing style that captures the audience. Excellent narrator choice.
I couldn't figure out how such a consistently awesome series could get so many bad reviews. A key character behaves in an unrealistic way, I am still looking for someone with a polyjuice potion to show up. Aside from that, the stories continues with same quality, and the series makes some great movement forward.
Another good addition to this addictive series, but not as much personal growth in this one for Eve. I also missed the supporting regular characters. They were not as integral as I expect to the story. I will always get any additions to this series. This is a fascinating world.
I just couldn't get into it. The narration was good, but the characters weren't compelling.
I really enjoyed the first book, but this installment didn't progress the story a great deal. It's as if the publisher wanted to stretch two books into a trilogy. That said, it is well written and interesting. If you enjoyed the first one, don't expect much from this. Hopefully the next book will resolve some issues or develop the story more.
This had a lot of potential, but it was slow paced, and the characters could have been better developed. The world, and the concept is creative is worth a try, but this isn't one I would recommend. It's a good book to get on sale. Maybe the print version is better.
