For years, our concept of the self and well-being has been dominated by the notion of self-esteem, while the old fashioned value of willpower has been disparaged by psychologists who argued that we’re largely driven by unconscious forces beyond our control. In Willpower Baumeister and Tierney turn this misinformation on its head to reveal self-control as arguably the single most powerful indicator of success. Baumeister discovered that willpower actually has a physical basis to it....

Very well written book, with great historical people and information used. There was lots of simplified scientific talk, so that the average Joe could understand ...but not so dumbed down that it was boring. There were many interesting characters used, from missionaries to David Blaine, and enough humor to keep me entertained. I have listened to this book twice and it has opened my eyes to understand why we do some of the silly things we do...especially if we are hungry ...or as we say in my house "hangry". Definitely recommend this book, it will help anyone understand Willpower and how to strengthen it.

These words, spoken to Brian Robeson, will change his life. Two years earlier, Brian was stranded alone in the wilderness for 54 days with nothing but a small hatchet. Yet he survived. Now the government wants him to go back into the wilderness so that astronauts and the military can learn the survival techniques that kept Brian alive. Soon the project backfires, though, leaving Brian with a wounded partner and a long river to navigate. His only hope is to build a raft and try to transport the injured man a hundred miles downstream to a trading post - if the map he has is accurate.

Ok, so my 12 year old daughter loves this as well....but girls usually love books....boys - not so much. My 8 year old and 10 year old boys have listened to 1 1/2 hours in one day and are mad that they can not finish it today. I have a surround sound with ILink, which lets me use an auxillary cord and listen to this over our speakers in the living room. The narator is perfect for this book, he reads this book the exact way I would imagine it should be read. My kids and I will be getting all the sequels to this book and many more by Gary Paulsen. Great read aloud to keep little boys interested. (there is also a study guide you can get to go with this book on Amazon, since we homeschool, we decided to use this as a part of our curriculum, it is a great help!)

Listen to this book and send your nonverbal intelligence soaring. Joe Navarro, a former FBI counterintelligence officer and a recognized expert on nonverbal behavior, explains how to "speed-read" people: decode sentiments and behaviors, avoid hidden pitfalls, and look for deceptive behaviors. You'll also learn how your body language can influence what your boss, family, friends, and strangers think of you.

This book was very informative and well written. The narrator does well, he is easy to listen too. There is so much great information in this, I may have to listen again. Even my children like to listen to it. It has opened their eyes to how "bodies " speak to us and it has helped us all understand ourselves and others better. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to better understand people and why we do some of the strange things we do!

Sinners in the Hands of Angry God is considered the most famous sermon ever preached in American history. Jonathan Edwards delivered this message on July 8, 1741, in Enfield, Connecticut. Many who heard it trembled and cried out for mercy. Others fainted. Five hundred people were converted that day.

I have always heard about the famous sermon preached by Johnathan Edwards, and it was just as intense and well spoken as I imagined it would be, although it is rather difficult to hear a sermon or speech just READ instead of spoken. It would have been nice to hear it read with the kind of passion it was meant to be spoken with. Overall, the narrator did fine, it is just a difficult kind of 'book' to read out loud.

In this best-selling novel, Patrick D. Smith tells the story of three generations of the MacIveys, a Florida family who battle the hardships of the frontier to rise from a dirt-poor Cracker life to the wealth and standing of real estate tycoons. The story opens in 1858, when Tobias MacIvey arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life, and ends in 1968 with Solomon MacIvey, who realizes that the land has been exploited far beyond human need.

I have read this book years ago, and really enjoyed listening to it with my husband on our long road trips. The narrator was perfect for this book, and made the listen even better. This is a great fictional story about Florida history, with real events and places we all know woven in. Once again, this is an all time favorite...so glad to find it on audible!
