Gail Carriger’s best-selling Parasol Protectorate series reimagines Victorian England with vampires, werewolves, and a dash of steampunk. Blameless is the third in the series starring the parasol-wielding Lady Alexia Maccon, formerly Alexia Tarabotti. After news spreads of her delicate condition—a surprise to everyone since she’s married to a werewolf—Alexia is desperate to escape the London gossip. So she heads to Italy for a change of scenery.

The story was okay....It still was not as good as the first and I kind of lost some respect for Alexia Tarrabotti for running so swiftly back to her stupid husband after he basically called her a whore....but what are you going to do? I am very interested in the baby though can't wait to see about that.

The story of Lilith, born into slavery on a Jamaican sugar plantation at the end of the 18th century. Even at her birth, the slave women around her recognize a dark power that they - and she - will come to both revere and fear. The Night Women, as they call themselves, have long been plotting a slave revolt, and as Lilith comes of age and reveals the extent of her power, they see her as the key to their plans.

While this book was very sad, it also had me on the edge of my seat. Nothing really seemed to work out in Lilith's favor. The brutality of this book was unspeakable and unimaginable, but I found the story line interesting, and let's face it while the book is brutal there lies a certain truth to that brutality. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to friends of mine.

Deborah Harkness has crafted a gripping journey through a world of alchemy, time travel, and magical discoveries.

It was not bad. Was it memorable? No not really! I was not "fascinated" by the book. When I read something I look for that WOW factor...something that has me recalling the book and its characters in my memory. Quite honestly the characters and plot were very forgetful after the book was over. However I will read the third book in the series when it comes out.

In this riveting landmark autobiography, which reads like a novel, Academy Award and Emmy winner Louis Gossett, Jr., masterfully transports us to 1840s New York; Washington, D.C.; and Louisiana to experience the kidnapping and 12 years of bondage of Solomon Northup, a free man of color. Twelve Years a Slave, published in 1853, was an immediate bombshell in the national debate over slavery leading up to the Civil War.

The brutality depicted in this book was unspeakable, so much so that I do not think I would ever be able to watch the movie. It was a very sad account of Solomon Northrup's life to be born free, educated, and then kidnapped and sold into bondage for 12 years. As sad as it was, I could not help but to smile when he received his freedom once again.

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

I have to say I was NOT a fan of "Gone Girl" the climax and then the flaccid ending sort of pissed me off. I have to say that "Dark Places" kept my interest straight through. I cannot wait to see how they put it into film as the move is to come out towards the end of this year. Movies are never usually as good as the book, but hopefully the producers and directors of the movie will do this book justice. I am going to listen to "Sharp Objects" with the hopes that it will be good also.

I was apprehensive at first.... I mean c'mon "The Maze Runner".... since reading the Hunger Games I was looking for a book that could keep my interest as much as that trilogy did. The Maze Runner was pretty good. There were some parts that had me rolling my eyes, but the last hour had me on the edge of my seat. So much so that I downloaded the next in the trilogy because I cannot wait to see what happened. Now I can't wait for the movie!
