The first 3/4 of the book were great. I thought I was reading a John Grisham novel. The last quarter of the book was just a "Hurry Up and try to finish". Ending was unrealistic and very chopped up. I felt like several chapters must have been left out and they had a ghost writer glue everything together without even reading the book to meet a deadline.
Not John Grisham's best. The book is filled with political agendas with a very weak plot. I got tired of hearing over and over that the main character doesn't want to be a litigator. The line "Coal Companies broke the unions" is also repeated over and over.
I actually rechecked my download of the book to see if I was missing any chapters because the story line was so weak and broken.
I am only half way through the audio book. I love the story but I have had to stop several times to rest my ear drums. The narrator keeps yelling in a high pitch voice through most of the book so far. It's like listening to a high pitched drama queen narrate a good book.
Might be a better book to curl up on the couch and read instead.
I love all of Julie Garwood's books. I just wish I had read the book on this one instead of listening to it. The narrater has an annoying habit of ending words and sentences with an upward tinny pitch.
There isn't really any difference in her voice when she is narrating female dialog and giving background information. Her male voices are not very good.
The story is good except the author tells you the main character has a "touch of Asthma" but through out the book she is desperately seeking her emergency inhaler. This got old fast. I think she used the emergency inhaler several time each day. All I could think of was the main character needs to see a pulmonary specialist.
Can say much about the book without giving away any of the twist and turns this author takes you on! Great book!
