Sean Bielecki has built a new life, leaving an infamous identity and painful past behind. Now Sommelier Wines is Sean’s dream. And after taking in Bobby, a homeless teenager who was attacked in the alley behind his store, parental instincts wake in him that he didn’t know he had, giving him new courage and direction. Officer Sam Davis has been watching Sean for a while—not because of his past—but because Sam wants to be a part of his life now.

Keith says: "Andrew Grey has done it again!"
    "Indulgent Redundancy"
    Overall

Overlook Mr. Grey's rudimentary, repetitive, uncomfortably paced writing style and Mr. Klaven's flat, accelerated narration (akin, at times, to speed reading), and you just might find a half-way decent story here.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "A Surprisingly Pleasurable Experience!!"
    Overall

Well written and excellently narrated. Beautiful in its simplicity. Like Jacob, I fell in love with both Marlena and Rosie. Heck, I fell in love with Jacob, too! :)

When A Single Man was originally published, it shocked many by its frank, sympathetic, and moving portrayal of a gay man in midlife. George, the protagonist, is adjusting to life on his own after the sudden death of his partner, and determines to persist in the routines of his daily life; the course of A Single Man spans 24 hours in an ordinary day.

Jean says: "loved the writing, loved the narrator"
    "SnoozeFest"
    Overall

I have NEVER started a book without finishing it...until this one. I was so bored out of my mind that I just had to move on.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Lora says: "Enzo (because he's so wize) for president."
    "Wonderful! Emotional! Enchanting!"
    Overall

A beautiful story by Garth Stein, beautifully told by Christopher Evan Welch!

I can't even remember the last time a book moved me as this one has. I just want to proclaim its merits from a mountaintop so that all the world can hear!! I highly recommend that EVERYONE read (or listen to) this book!

I have already ordered Mr. Stein's other novels (printed versions from Amazon), and I can't wait to receive them.

This unprecedented audio project is as thought-provoking as it is mesmeric. The Night Listener is a meditation on the power of voices and the faith we place in them, and an extraordinary audio experience from an American literary icon.

    "Was Expecting More"
    Overall

This was a decent read...er...listen, but I was expecting more. I think I enjoyed "The Electrifying True Story Behind the Night Listener" better. Not as good as "Tales of the City...," but if you like Armistead, you'll probably enjoy it.

What if you went to a school where it was actually all right to be who you really are? That's the enchanting place David Levithan has created in his highly acclaimed first novel. But even if the gay kids and the straight kids all get along just fine, even if it's all right for the quarterback to be a cross dresser named Infinite Darlene and the cheerleaders to ride Harleys into the pep rally, the road to true love is still a strange and winding path, as Paul discovers when he meets the boy of his dreams.

Brian says: "Kudos to Full Cast Audio"
    "Excellent Feel-Good Adventure"
    Overall

The innocence and beauty of young romance and high school life/angst are so very well communicated by both the words and the narration. This book leaves the reader/listener with a hopeful happiness. A fun, excellent experience. Take the ride! You'll be glad you did.

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Lesley says: "Yikes! Five stars for fright"
"Couldn't Wait for it to End"
    Overall

Great idea for a story, but it failed in execution. I had a difficult time feeling any empathy for the characters. I really didn't care what happened to any of them. The story couldn't end soon enough for me.

Ogunquit, Maine. That's not where you'd expect to find a guy like Danny. He's not a tourist. He's not a local. And he's definitely not gay. As far as he can tell, only he and the bartender at Dishes, where he works as a dishwasher, are straight. But that's not what bothers Danny. What bothers him is that he's got straight-guy problems in a very gay town. While he's hitting on a cute waitress, the cute waiters are hitting on him. And could the cute waitress have a thing for his 36-year-old dad? It's one crazy summer in a crazy Maine town.

I found this story lacking depth. It was difficult to identify with the characters.
