"Indulgent Redundancy"
Overlook Mr. Grey's rudimentary, repetitive, uncomfortably paced writing style and Mr. Klaven's flat, accelerated narration (akin, at times, to speed reading), and you just might find a half-way decent story here.
"A Surprisingly Pleasurable Experience!!"
Well written and excellently narrated. Beautiful in its simplicity. Like Jacob, I fell in love with both Marlena and Rosie. Heck, I fell in love with Jacob, too! :)
"SnoozeFest"
I have NEVER started a book without finishing it...until this one. I was so bored out of my mind that I just had to move on.
"Wonderful! Emotional! Enchanting!"
A beautiful story by Garth Stein, beautifully told by Christopher Evan Welch!
I can't even remember the last time a book moved me as this one has. I just want to proclaim its merits from a mountaintop so that all the world can hear!! I highly recommend that EVERYONE read (or listen to) this book!
I have already ordered Mr. Stein's other novels (printed versions from Amazon), and I can't wait to receive them.
"Was Expecting More"
This was a decent read...er...listen, but I was expecting more. I think I enjoyed "The Electrifying True Story Behind the Night Listener" better. Not as good as "Tales of the City...," but if you like Armistead, you'll probably enjoy it.
"Excellent Feel-Good Adventure"
The innocence and beauty of young romance and high school life/angst are so very well communicated by both the words and the narration. This book leaves the reader/listener with a hopeful happiness. A fun, excellent experience. Take the ride! You'll be glad you did.
"Couldn't Wait for it to End"
Great idea for a story, but it failed in execution. I had a difficult time feeling any empathy for the characters. I really didn't care what happened to any of them. The story couldn't end soon enough for me.
"So-So At Best"
I found this story lacking depth. It was difficult to identify with the characters.
