What exactly is food addiction? Is it possible to draw a hard line between indulging cravings for "comfort food" and engaging in substance abuse? For people struggling with food addictions, recognizing their condition - to say nothing of gaining support and advice - remains a frustrating battle.

This renowned journalist's classic Pulitzer Prize winning investigation of schizophrenia - now reissued with a new postscript - follows a flamboyant and fiercely intelligent young woman as she struggles in the throes of mental illness. "Sylvia Frumkin" was born in 1948 and began showing signs of schizophrenia in her teens. She spent the next seventeen years in and out of mental institutions. In 1978, reporter Susan Sheehan took an interest in her and, for more than two years, became immersed in her life.

    What disappointed you about Cravings?

I was expecting a heartfelt novel about the author's battle with Food Addiction, in which I am also in recovery from. Instead the book was filled with an uninteresting history of different food gurus, teachers, and celebrities with splices of her own story throughout.

What could Judy Collins have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Stick to her own autobiography and keep the focus on food, health, and her personal struggles and triumphs.

How could the performance have been better?

Her voice was a bit annoying and condescending.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The author seemed genuine and positive.

One of the comedy world's fastest-rising stars tells his wild coming of age story during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa and the tumultuous days of freedom that followed. Noah provides something deeper than traditional memoirists: powerfully funny observations about how farcical political and social systems play out in our lives.

    Story

Wow! Probably the best book I've ever listened to! Beautifully written and read! A beautiful story about resilience. I learned so much about South African history. I grew up in the 80's and heard about apartheid and I remember when Nelson Mandela was freed and Apartheid ended, but never FULLY understood these events until now. Trevor's story gave me insight into my own history as an Afro-Caribbean woman raised in the US by Caribbean parents with British roots. Trevor unapologetically described the realities of race, domestic violence, plus pre and post apartheid ups and downs that many of us in the US are oblivious to. Spoken and written so eloquently and real. This is a must read for all backgrounds!!

"My name is 'J' and I'm awkward--and black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?" Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert--whether she's navigating love, work, friendships, or rapping--it sure is entertaining.

Love the honesty. As a black professional woman in my late 30s I want to thank the author for sharing her honest truth. I related to sooo much, including her addiction to food, growing up with diverse 90s movies and television (and deeply missing it), feeling completely left out in the media, being awkward and a natural introvert. I could go on and on. I recommend that everyone reads this regardless of their background. Loved it!!
