Summer's Path is the remarkable story of Don Newport, an engineer that comes face to face with his personal destiny under extraordinary circumstances. After losing his job and his health insurance, Don learns he has a terminal disease with only a few months left to live. On his death bed, he meets Robert, a brazen angel of death that promises to help Don with a graceful exit.

It takes a few minutes to get into any book, sometimes an hour or more, but I have agonized for two hours, no more. I quit. Not worth even downloading.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    Overall

I did not enjoy this audiobook. It took me a long time to get into it and I was not completely convinced it was a work of fiction. Read by the author and told in the first person, it was almost like an autobiographical history of his childhood. While Khaled is a storyteller for sure, I finished listening to it because I just wanted to be done with it. I had mixed thoughts before buying it, because I was unsure, but it was rated so high and reviewed so much, I thought my hunch must have been wrong. Unfortunately, I should have listened to my heart instead of this 12 hour book...
