Five years ago Barbara Holloway gave up practicing law, disillusioned with a profession that put politics before justice. Then she receives a phone call, with a simple message: "I need you."

Bryan says: "A decent time killer, editing bobbles are a bonus"
    "Bad download!"
    Overall

There were so many errors in this download - not the author's fault, but just a warning to those who are considering purchasing.

The book is okay, but too abstract for me. I actually like this narrator and have enjoyed her reading some other "Barbara Holloway" novels, but I found this book to be tedious and annoying with the vague details and ridiculous plot twists.

The author seems to have a bizarre obsession with what everyone is drinking - it just comes up too often.

There are better Kate Wilhelm books.

The sequel you’ve been waiting for: the follow-up to the sensational number-one best seller The Devil Wears Prada. Andrea "Andy" Sachs is on top of the world, running her own very successful high-fashion bridal magazine. But she got there with the help of her rolodex - actually, the rolodex of Miranda Priestly, her former nightmare of a boss. As Andy's success grows, she realizes she'll soon have to face Miranda. Still, Andy can hardly anticipate the horrifying reality that’s approaching - a reversal so profound that she will be squarely in Miranda’s crosshairs once more.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I loved The Devil Wears Prada and really hoped this would be as good. It wasn't. The narrator was so-so, but the writing was just awful. The endless descriptions of the baby's skin, hair, smell, etc. were nauseating.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator emoted a bit too much, especially when describing Andi's thoughts about her husband or baby. It was annoying.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

This book was a major disappointment.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "The best narrator"
    Overall

I love this series of books - they are a great listen. The narration is just wonderul.

This book has repeated and blank sections. The writing is okay, the narration is okay - the recording is simply awful.

The woman, a respected music professor, is a member of a group that sponsors worthy causes involving women. And they want Barbara to defend Carol Fredricks, a gifted young pianist who stands accused of murdering the manager of a piano bar.

The audio is awful. There are huge blank sections - specifically over a key plot point.

A history of Saturday Night Live that finally reveals what really went on backstage, on the set, in the writers' offices, and on the town. Dozens of stars, writers, and guest hosts recall the backstage gossip, feuds, foibles, drugs, sex, struggles, and calamities of the show that changed television.

Tim says: "Interesting inside look, so-so presentation"
"Maybe a good read - but a horrible listen"
    Overall

The narration in this book is just awful. "Readers" are used to portray real life actors, comedians, musicians, etc. and it's just horrible. The person who reads the Billy Crystal excerpts is particularly annoying. The effort put into immitating people is so distracting and off-putting, that at some point, I almost just threw in the towel and gave up the book.

  • Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea

In this wickedly honest new work, Chelsea Handler casts the net wider with even funnier results, recalling the most noteworthy highs and lows of her life to date - including her efforts to diversify by dating red-haired men, her obsession with midgets, and the dog-sitting interlude in which her boyfriend became overly familiar with a Peekapoo.

    Teddy says: "Just Plain FUNNYYYY!!!!!!!!!"
    "Raunchy fun"
    Overall

I was disappointed that Chelsea didn't read this book, but the reader did a good job. It's a tacky read, but very fun.

From the best-selling author of American Tragedy and Perfect Murder, Perfect Town comes an even more stunning portrayal of America's dark side. Into the Mirror is the shocking story of FBI Special Agent Robert P. Hanssen, the master spy who single-handedly created the greatest breach of security in the history of our country.

    Nona says: "Bad reader"
    "Bad reader"
    Overall

The content of this book is very suspect because so much of it is dialog that no one could have been privy to except for Bob Hanssen and I just have my doubts that he related so many "mirror conversations" to anyone. Also, the reader is horrible. He frequently lowers to a whisper when doing the "mirror conversations" so that the volume has to be turned way up, then he's yelling the next minute. This is just not a good book at all.
