When her older sister runs away to marry a rodeo cowboy, sixth-grader Alice Winston is left to bear the brunt of her family's troubles: a depressed, bed-ridden mother; a reticent, overworked father; and a rundown horse ranch. As the hottest summer in 15 years unfolds and bills pile up, Alice is torn between dreams of escaping the loneliness of her duty-filled life and a longing to help her father mend their family and the ranch.

    Cameo says: "Recommended"
    "terribly boring! uninteresting & depressing"
    Overall

the title of this book does not acurately describe anything in the plot. its about a 12 yr old kid who has a bunch of problems - which are uninteresting, the whole book you wait for something to happen, and it doesn't. when it's over you basically say to yourself... "no... really???" the narrator is good, but the story sucks. it does have horses in it but it does not really tell anything note worthy about them, no facts, details that one could find interesting. also the author has a wordy style, which is ok in the beginning, but it gets old fast and turns into a waste of time, especially when you're listening to it because its not like you could just read over them really fast and ignor them.

i read the other reviews, and what-da???!!!*%$# heck?? are you people nuts! that was the worst audible book EVER!!! it sucks!! the whole story. what story? it's terrible, not entertaining in any way, not suspenceful, not sad, not happy, just bla. and it sure is not about stealing horses. i finished it only cuz once i start something i have to finish it and i really regret having that as one of my personality traits. i will say one positive thing... the narrator has a good voice

Sarah's grandfather was a horseman of rare talent - only the exceptional are allowed into France's elite riding academy, Le Cadre Noir. But life took an unexpected turn, and now from a council estate in east London, the Captain hopes to train his granddaughter towards a better life.

Kaelin says: "Wow! Amazing story start to finish"

    Overall

it takes a little time to start to like it. kinda slow in the beginning. and it's based out of london so it' would be better if you had been to london so you could picture how it might be set up, where the girl rides her horse ect - how far she rides - that kind of thing. the narrator also has an english acent. but is easy to understand it just takes time to get used to it.

When it comes to the holidays, no story brings us back to the true spirit of giving like O. Henry’s classic "The Gift of the Magi". So this year we’ve asked some of your favorite Audible narrators—Audie Award winners Katherine Kellgren, Oliver Wyman, and Jonathan Davis—to bring to life this timeless tale, plus two more of O. Henry’s gems: "The Cop and the Anthem" and "The Last Leaf", in this holiday collection.

“Everything That Rises Must Converge” is the title story from Flannery O’Connor’s short-story collection of the same name, published posthumously in 1965. The flawed characters of each of the collection’s nine stories are fully revealed in apocalyptic moments of conflict and violence that are presented with comic detachment.

very much like a dick francis book. also i liked the insight into the gambling / horse racing it makes it informative. also thought the narrator was good. it's a mystery book with horse racing in it. the end of the book gets complicated for a narrated book - maybe it would have been better to actually read it than to have to pay attention to it.

i thought this book was ok. it's based out of europe, so it would be beneficial to know the area. the narrator is ok too. it's written in the point of view of the horse - like black beauty, which i liked.

They had no business being there. They were up against million-dollar horses owned by patricians, oilmen, Arab sheiks, and Hollywood producers. They were 10 regular guys, and all they wanted was to win a race. Instead, they won the hearts of America.

i loved this a.book, it gives such a good insight into the racing world. gives acurate facts and statistics of racing. i personally think the book goes a little overboard on the background of the people... cuz there are 10 of them. but i guess it's essential to the story. i agree with the post above if you like seabiscuit, you'll like this one. and the narrator is pretty good too.
