In her small early-19th-century Welsh town, there is no one quite like Morgana. She is small and quick and pretty enough to attract a suitor, but there are things that set her apart from other girls. Though her mind is sharp she has not spoken since she was a young girl. Her silence is a mystery, as well as her magic - the household objects that seem to move at her command, the bad luck that visits those who do her ill. Concerned for her safety, her mother is anxious to see Morgana married....

Connie's mother asks her to sell an abandoned house once owned by her grandmother in Salem, Mass. Relunctantly, Connie moves to the small town and inhabits the crumbling, ancient house, trying to restore it to a semblance of order. Curious things start to happen when Connie finds the name "Deliverance Dane" on a yellowed scrap of paper and begins to have visions of a long ago woman condemned for practicing "physick," or herbal healing, on her neighbors in 1690s Salem.

As Bess Hawksmith watches her mother swing from the Hanging Tree she knows that only one man can save her from the same fate at the hands of the panicked mob: the Warlock Gideon Masters, and his Book of Shadows. If you could sum up A Discovery of Witches in three words, what would they be?

    Outstanding suspenseful intriguing

What other book might you compare A Discovery of Witches to and why?

50 Shades of Grey, for the love story part and the "can't put it down part" but also because it is the exact opposite in sexual explicity. There is an actual gradual love story that blossoms after a long period of time that stands the test of time. There is no obvious sex in this story. I liked that.

Which character – as performed by Jennifer Ikeda – was your favorite?

    Matthew by far!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Yes at times both reactions.

    Any additional comments?

Jennifer Ikeda was absolutely awesome! I could listen to her tell a story all day. She had all the accents down pat! I was amazed!

Note to any narrator. If you cannot figure out a way to read emailing back and forth in another way, don't agree to do the book because it makes you sound ridiculous! It was just boring hearing that part and a waste of mental time.

Her obsession with Mr. Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, is ruining her love life: no real man can compare. But when a wealthy relative bequeaths her a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane's fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become realer than she ever could have imagined.

Elizabeth Gaskell's comic portrait of early Victorian life in a country town describes with poignant wit the uneventful lives of its lady-like inhabitants, offering an ironic commentary on the separate spheres and diverse experiences of men and women. As the external world necessarily impinges even on Cranford, the unlikely juxtapositions of old and new brought about by the pace of change are also explored.

Would you listen to Northanger Abbey again? Why?

Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because Jane Austen rocks!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Isabella Thorpe: A manipulative and self-serving young woman on a quest to obtain a well-off husband; at the time, marriage was the accepted way for young women of a certain class to become "established" with a household of their own (as opposed to becoming a dependent spinster), and Isabella lacks most assets (such as wealth or family connections to bring to a marriage) that would make her a "catch" on the "marriage market". Upon her arrival in Bath she is without acquaintance, leading her to immediately form a quick friendship with Catherine Morland. Additionally, when she learns that Catherine is the sister to James Morland (whom Isabella suspects to be worth more financially than he is in reality), she goes to every length to ensure a connection between the two families.

Have you listened to any of Anna Massey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh yeah, just what I like. She has a great reading voice and does a lot of great voices that she does.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes!
