I got the first book in the series Darkfever on one of the audible sales. I was pleasantly surprised at how the book pulled me into the story. This last book Faefever might not be the strongest of the three I've listened to so far but still really good. I really enjoy the narrator, she has a deep rich voice and uses accents really well to capture the nuances of the characters. The way she does the male voices are not as good as the female ones. But she does a really good job. As some others have said the ending was a bit of let down. So 4 stars not 5. But over all I really enjoyed the whole fever series so far.
This book seems promising. Ill review when finished. I have fibromyalgia and figured this may help address similar issues. But as listening they are talking to me.
I want to adress some points that some reviews made about this narrator. I find her really good. I DISAGREE with some remarks made but one review was actually offensive. I have lived in many places and while the narrarator has an accent she is articulate and her voice is pleasant. I really use reviews to choose books I really debated rather to get this glad I went ahead.
I enjoyed this one as much as Masques! She has such a talent for writing suspense long enough its a good mystery yet not to where it drags. She ads clues so you figure it out with the characters. Characters who we grow to care about.
I like her other books I've read. Was just looking for something to listen to. This one took me back to the fun books I read years ago. Yet a timeless story mystery and yet not tooo much mystery. Good pace.. really liked it. I really liked the narration as well.. pretty much a flawless performance.
But my daughter will go to sleep when I put on faster than anything else.
I really enjoyed this book, wasn't so sure I would when it started but can't wait to start book 2.
It also gave me a little extra enjoyment when the character heads to MT and goes to a town I lived in. At one point a character says tourists.. I laughed cause that is so spot on for what you hear there. (a lot)
Pros, Good narrator, great characters, and a cool premise, pretty good ending especially if it goes on in more books. I enjoy the way DK writes, and I've liked, or loved almost every one of his books I've read. Which have been a lot over the years.
There were only a few things I consider cons. I love DK's descriptive writing, but even I have to admit there were a few times in this book where I was thinking ok we get it, on with the story please. Maybe its because my college teacher sternly cautioned me about over using certain words or terms I noticed the use of things like "however" and "never the less" over and over.
Having said that I'd recommend this audio book, and enjoyed it a lot. I finished in 3 days getting back to it whenever I could.
I enjoyed this story a lot. I liked the narrator. The characters and their emotions seemed limited but were interesting as far as they went. I'd enjoy seeing where they go from the point the story ended. The whole issue of us (the us being humanity in this case and a legal system) bending over backward to accommodate rules and customs that would be unethical and reprehensible and break the it's rules and customs. Thought provoking and engaging.
I would have given this book five stars but I do think 2 credits is to much. I wasn't happy when I saw this go on sale for 5 dollars. Though good for those whose timing was better.
The narration was good; though it took me a short bit to get into it. (I also think she gets better as the book and series progresses.
The story was good and moved along. Sometimes the motivations of the characters was surprising, but not so much so it took away from the story. There were interesting things that went on but the focus was Harper the main character.
I always liked x-files except that sometimes it went to far with the creepy stuff. This story had just the right balance. All in all for me this was a good choice even having to use (2) credits.
