"Moving"
I'm a baseball fan but really didn't know the Josh Hamilton story. This is a story of a man with talent to spare and a wife and family that didn't give up on him.
Great for baseball fans, good for sports fans, and OK for readers who just want to read a story about overcoming obstacles.
It's important to recognize the time frame of the book since this is the same Josh Hamilton who hit four home runs in one game for the Rangers early in the 2012 baseball season.
"Worth a credit, I liked it"
Right in the middle.
Sort of. I kept listening, but didn't sit in the car and listen after arriving at my destination like I do for some books.
The vet's office
No.
As a commuter, I like books that pass the time between home and work and back. This certainly did that; I never got bored or disinterested.
"So far, so good!"
The quality of the Hunger Games continues in this second book of the trilogy.
Good narration. It was very clear which character was "speaking" as she was reading.
"Great book for the whole family!"
Including the audile and kindle versions, my family owns at least 4 copies of this book. I have several teenagers and pre-teens and we all read the entire series. We then saw the movie together the first week it was out.
Even if you've seen the movie, read this and the next two before the other movies come out.
"3 for 3"
A must "read" if you liked and read the first two. Can't say too much, don't wan't to give anything away.
Do not buy this until you've read the first two in the Hunger Games trilogy.
I listened to the entire Trilogy. She's good in all three.
No. I READ books in one sitting, but audible.com is strictly for the commute.
"A must listen"
I downloaded this based on a suggestion from somewhere, don't remember where. I was enthralled at the story and the details that were conveyed in the book. It's hard to imagine what Louis went through and the will he must have had to survive it all. The narrator was outstanding and the research had to be right on.
My father fought in WWII and earned a purple heart, but I have no "first hand" stories since he died of cancer when I was an infant. My uncle was killed at Iwo Jima and I have no more personal information on that battle. I am now very motivated to start researching what he must have gone through. Thanks for the story and telling the history from a "first hand" point of view!
"I enjoyed it"
Good narration, typical Mike Hammer. Not too deep, helps pass the time from point to point!
"Entertaining"
Hey, it's Mike Hammer! Nice way to pass the time on a trip across the state!
"Very interesting and insightful"
As a non-physician medical professional, this was a great book. I don't know the long term outcome of his ideas and/or observations, but if ANY of them become part of the accepted medical culture, it'll be worth it. I recoommend to all medical, pharmacy and nursing students, residents, and practicing clinicians.
"Ok, passed the time"
I'm not a Yankee fan, but I've been a Joe Torre fan since his time with the Cardinals as a player and Braves as a manager. The book is OK. There are many good stories, insights, and some very detailed accounts of games, contract negotiations, the Steinbrenners, PEDs, and baseball in general.
The one drawback is it seems like each chapter was written without regard to what was in the other chapters. Many times there would be a reference to an event or game that was covered in a previous chapter, without any acknowledgement that the reader/listener had already been told this bit of information.
Also, it sometimes was hard to tell who was speaking and/or how the book was written (1st person, third person, etc.). The narration was good, assuming he was reading and couldn't really help the reader know when Mike Mussina was talking, Torre was talking, or someone was narrating.
If you are a Torre or Yankee fan and/or want some insight in the 12 Torre years in pinstripes, it's worth an Audible credit!
