"A PURE Classic!!!!"
This is the best! Rob Ingles is excellent. His performance is as if JRR Tolkien was reading it himself.
Enjoyed the entire story and narration.
I have listened to The Hobbitt - also highly recommend,
"Bravo Mr. King!!!"
The premise of this book is fantastic. One that many have considered, but only Stephen King could sit down and bring to life. And that is what I think is so amazing about this book. Mr. King brings this world back to life for me. This took place a few years before I was born, but many of the memories came back to me from those days gone by. It was a simpler time, but it wasn't all candy & soda pop either.
Loved the characters. Loved the way he introduced them. Loved the attention to detail he put into the time travel. That you have as many unknowns and things that you may or may not change. Amazing read! Worth every credit or dollar invested!
"Most emotional & endearing story I've ever read"
As a parent, as a human being that suffers from doubt in my faith from time-to-time - this story touches me in so many ways. Unfathomable pain and anguish from a brutal act that leaves a man helpless and lost. But this vision/quest that he experiences speaks to me in a real and totally "human" way, that I like to believe the Trinity would present themselves in this overly simplistic manner - so that we mere mortals could understand and believe.
I won't give the story away, but I absolutely love the vision of God the Father presented as a black woman - and I see her as the cheeky, smiling all the time, hardy soul, bright outlook, most loving and generous lady you've ever met.
I have not.
This story touched me. And I found spiritual renewal in this presentation of the Gospel message. Many have criticized it's theology. I think it sad that some Christians think that they can control the message of God's love for us. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and "The Shack" is one of the best mysterious ways that I have encountered. Thank you Mr. Young!
"Wasn't Sure Where This One Was Going?"
Interesting story, took a while to understand the format, but worth the listen.
Narrator did a great job of portraying the characters and bringing our their stories.
The mom. When you hear the book, you'll understand.
"Preston & Child do it again"
YES! Every book in this series just keeps getting better. The Pendergast character is so complex and ever changing. Look forward to the next weird situation he will get involved with next.
Pendergast is one of my all-time favorite characters. These books would make a fantastic movie along the lines of Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes movies. Pendergast and his tailored suits with all the tools and gadgets he pulls out of various pockets and hidden places. He is so strange and peculiar and yet very loyal and caring.
Brick does them all so well. I thought he would have a hard time separating Pendergast from his brother, Diogenes, in this book - but I thought he handled it well.
"Good Story - worth a credit"
Yes. George Guidall is a terrific narrator for espionage novels. You can always tell who the "hard ace" is because he quickens his pace whenever that person is speaking. I love it. This was my first Brad Thor novel and it is very similar to other authors I follow in this genre.
I think it's a good story, and well executed. But I walked away from this a little flat. Obviously this is a series - and the story of the characters has not ended.
"Very Interesting Book"
If you enjoy historical books, this is a great and indepth look at the life at sea of a pirate in the 1690's - with lots of back stories and insights into life during this era. Contrary to what you see on TV about pirates, this book goes into great detail about life on the high seas.
The betrayal of Capt. Kidd by his financial backers - and the presentation of charges against him for piracy.
His voice is soothing and calm throughout. I enjoyed his narration of this historical book.
No - it was not that type of story.
"ANOTHER HIT OUT OF THE PARK!"
Did not read the printed book
I love Pendergast. The books are showing more and more of the benevolent side of this very complex character, and that he will pull out all stops to get to the bottom of solving this case.
He is incredible. He really brings Pendergast to life for me. Great job!!!
Once you get into the story - you want to keep going.
Highly recommend the entire Pendergast series. Preston & Child are incredibly gifted writers, and Rene Auberjonois knows the character and brings that sophisticated aire to his narration.
"Good story ruined by Narrator"
No. Better off reading it. The Narrator tried to do a Minnesota inflection or something, but he really ruined this audioook for me. I enjoyed the story - but Narrator was not up to the writing.
My first experience. I enjoyed the story and the plot line - but Narrator detracted from it for me.
Not if I can help it.
If you can look past the performance and concentrate on the story - well worth it.
"Another Great Story from DB!"
Have not read the print version... why would I waste my time listening & reading?
DB weaves a great story, and keeps it interesting throughout. McLarty is great on his books - always enjoyable.
Ron McLarty does espionage & thrillers so well. If he read the phone book and I would listen.
Enjoyable listening experience. I enjoyed this book.
