"This is the What"
An excellent listen with a fabulous story. I was engaged immediately in the tale which was wonderfully and skillfully narrated by Dion Graham. The narration made for a much richer experience of the story than if I had read it. I highly recommend this book and will be listening to it again.
"Great fun"
As expected, David Sedaris entertains and takes you into his world. I was happy to be stuck in a massive 3 hour traffic jam recently on the SF Bay Bridge, as it gave me extra time to enjoy this book- sounds crazy, but true!
"Amazing"
This book was a bit different than what I usually listen to, but after a few minutes of listening to the incredible narration by Will Patton, I couldn't 'put it down'. If I had been reading the book, I probably would have felt it was too violent and bloody for me, but I was mesmerized by the many voices created by the narrator. Will Patton gave an incredible depth to the characters through his reading that I know would not have come out if I had simply read the book on my own. I plan on listening to this audio gem many more times in the future.
"Funny stuff"
I really enjoyed the dry humor of this book and the funny spin the author could put on just about any situation. I laughed out loud quite often, and even more the second time I listened to it about 7 months later. I also found his observations on island life candid and informative. Having traveled a bit myself in 'out of the way places' I understand that the fantasy of "getting away from it all" is just that, and I enjoyed hearing the trials and tribulations of daily life on an island on the equator. Somewhat graphic at times, but that is what made the story so vivid. I highly recommend this book if you like offbeat humor. I enjoy Anthony Bourdain as well. The narrator was very enjoyable to listen to as well.
