  • Jeeves and the Mating Season

Bertie Wooster's friend Gussie Fink-Nottle is sentenced to 14 days for wading in the fountain at Trafalgar Square. Bertie is worried that Gussie's fiancé Madeline will be angry because she has a distressing habit of turning her attentions to Bertie when her fiancé upsets her. Bertie has the bright idea of impersonating Gussie, and showing up at Deverill Hall. The situation is wonderfully comical when Gussie shows up, posing as Bertie. Only Jeeves, arriving in his own disguise, can sort out this mess.

    Esquire says: "perfect comic timing"
"love the characters formula getting tired"
    Overall

I love these characters, berty and jeeves are very interesting characters. My problem is that familiarity breeds contempt thing. the three that I have downloaded are all engaging and I do not regrett buying them, but they are all cut from the same basic outline.

I had complained that modern best selling authors all stick to the same formula, but so does Woodehouse. Oh well its still funny.

    The naration is great

  • The Cold Six Thousand

In The Cold Six Thousand, James Ellroy's most ambitious and explosive novel yet, he puts the whole of the 1960s under his blistering lens. The result is a work of fierce, epic fiction, a speedball through our most tumultuous time.

    Snoodely says: "Plausible history"
    "hard to listen too"
    Overall

This book was really hard to listen to. The story is long and involves most of the 60's conspiracy theory's. JFK, MLK, Vietnam-cia-drug connection, it takes alot of concentration to remember what threads are going on at any one time. I wonder if it was easier to read than to listen to.

  • Jefferson's War: America's First War on Terror, 1801-1805

Two centuries ago, without congressional or public debate, a president who is thought of today as peaceable, Thomas Jefferson, launched America's first war on foreign soil, a war against terror. The enemy was Muslim; the war was waged unconventionally, with commandos, native troops, and encrypted intelligence, and launched from foreign bases.

    Donald says: "A Great Read"
    "very good listen,"
    Overall

    I liked this book alot
it shows how the united states evolved from fledgling nation to powerfull nation.
the evolution of jefferson is great, after years of arguing against centralized government, he takes that power and creates a powerfull navy, in order to protect the fledgling american commerce.

after this book I took the plunge and picked up the 5part Alexander Hamilton monster of a book.

Ron Chernow, whom the New York Times called "as elegant an architect of monumental histories as we've seen in decades", now brings to startling life the man who was arguably the most important figure in American history, who never attained the presidency, but who had a far more lasting impact than many who did.

Robert says: "Captivating & Fluid Bio Unique American immigrant"
    "great book, great story"
    Overall

it has taken one month to listen to this book , but wow it is worth it.
the unabridge is well worth it as a monthly member, I try to get the books that are big/pricey.
the previous month I had selected the book on thomas jeffersons war on terrorism which lead me to this one.

This book is on Alexander Hamilton but also by nessity also gives an overview of the life in the west indies during the early1700's,slavery, american revolution, french revolution and early stages of party politics in the united states.
