John Rain is back. And “the most charismatic assassin since James Bond” (San Francisco Chronicle) is up against his most formidable enemy yet: the nexus of political, military, media, and corporate factions known only as the Oligarchy. When legendary black ops veteran Colonel Scott “Hort” Horton tracks Rain down in Tokyo, Rain can’t resist the offer: a multi-million dollar payday for the “natural causes” demise of three ultra-high-profile targets who are dangerously close to launching a coup in America. But the opposition on this job is going to be too much for even Rain to pull it off alone.

A graduate of the Department of Defense's experimental Black Flag program, Daniel Petrovich carries a secret he'd rather keep buried. A secret his government has hidden in the deepest vaults of the Pentagon. Someone is trying to raise Black Flag from the dead, and drag Petrovich back into the poisonous life he abandoned. Someone who knows his darkest secrets.

The first half of the book is putting together the characters and what's going on but there is action. The second half really takes off with everything you'd ever want with an action thriller. Definitely recommend.

William Fogarty, a time-toughened cop, hardened by personal tragedy, is shocked by the brutality of the crimes. His only lead comes from medical examiner Josef Tanaka. Half Japanese and half American, Tanaka, a skilled practitioner of the martial arts, claims to recognize the method used in the attacks: a karate strike known as nukite, or spear hand. Fogarty has nowhere else to turn.

Good writing, original story and not really predictable. Really enjoyed it. Would love to see the sequel on audible. I had to speed up the narration a bit but I usually do that or else I start to drift. Probably needs it more so from this reader but not too bad. Overall worth your money or credit.

I love this genre. Read or listened to all the Flynns, Silva, Eisler, Coes. This book is right up there at the top. Great story, great character, no slow spots easy to follow and semi realistic for normal people probably very realistic for spec ops people. You can't go wrong with this one, worth every penny and minute of your time. The narrator was very good, the only reason he didn't get a five is because he didn't differetiate the characters voices enough but did a fine job. He wasn't boring or too slow.

I'm happy to report that this is an excellent book! I listen to 50 books a year, many from this genre i.e. all the Eislers, Flynn etc. This is right up there. Excellent main character, hightly skilled but not cartoonish. Great bad guys. I'm ready for the next immediately. Once I adapted to reader after first half hour or so, I found him very good. Took a little while to get used to his voice and keep from drifting. By the end I was able to differentiate all the characters clearly with his acting. I would definitely recommend this fast paced straightforward book!
