NYPD Detective Michael Bennett is about to take on the most sinister challenge of his career. The nation has fallen into mourning after the unexpected death of a beloved former first lady, and the most powerful people in the world gather in New York for her funeral. Then the inconceivable occurs. Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped within one man's brilliant and cold-blooded scenario.

    TEDDET says: "Classic good Patterson"
    "Wasn't what I expected"
    Overall

Not suspemsful, as I was expecting, but boring in many parts. I fell asleep during the last hour and don't even care enough to go back and re-listen to the ending.

Troy Phelan is a self-made billionaire, one of the richest men in the United States. He is also eccentric, reclusive, confined to a wheelchair, and looking for a way to die. His potential heirs, to no one's surprise - especially Troy's - are circling like vultures. But Troy shocks them all when he leaves his fortune to an estranged, illegitimate daughter.

    Richard says: "Best Grisham Ever"
    "I did not like it!"
    Overall

I made no connection with these characters - the plot was completely predictable and the narrators breathy pronunciation at the end of every sentence was so distracting it was annoying. I skipped ahead so many times just to say I finished it!

New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness.

    "Loved it"
    Overall

This will always be one of my favorite books. Loved the different readers for each character, which really connects you emotionally with each of them. I couldn't stop listening to it. The ending was so unexpected - it is a book you have to discuss when you have finished. Make sure you listen to this one!

The cause of the devastation is a phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse, and the delivery method is a cell phone. Everyone's cell phone. Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization's darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve.

I am a Stephen King fan from way back, but this was a complete disappointment. I couldn't wait for the book to be over....there seemed to be no point to the story at times. Occasionally another voice would be inserted to utter a narrative sentence and it was distracting and confusing. Dont bother.
