"A good one"
This story reminds me a bit of the Hearts in Atlantis book. A well done story about my generation, it's time and place. Too bad the Hearts book was made into a lousy movie. I hope for a better fate with this one. Others will describe the plot . I will say it was interesting, touching and had the S. King of old when he is at his best and not just writing for the money. When he is in good form he is great and he is in good form on this one.
"Good story"
It's a good story that keeps the reader engaged most of the time. A little fluff here and there but mostly very engaging. I really am a fan of Scott Brick the narrator but he mispronounces the name of the indian tribe which is part of the story. Given the fact it's a significant part of the story, I would have thought he would have checked on the proper pronounciation ..Miwoks are pronounced Me wok not MY wok
"pointless"
The writer is clearly skilled but the actual ending of this story was just not worth the effort. An unsympathetic protaganist and a pointless end. The reviews misled me but maybe someone saw something in this that I sure didn't.
"Really good crime fiction"
This writer was a new one for me. His style is noir. The story kept me interested all the way through. I figured out who the villain was before the end but the journey was well worth it. I am going to definitely look for more of this author.
"Not up to the usual"
I am a big fan of this author. His book Rose is incredible. This novel however seems to wander a bit and just doesn't carry that ability the author has to immerse us in the character that he has demonstrated so well in the past. Wish it had been better because I really am a fan and wait for any new novels by this author
"Good depiction"
I would say this is a fair depiction of how things happen. Since it was fiction I was hoping those who were so politically or career motivated would have some unfortunate things happen to them but it wasnt to be.
"Good but was hoping for more"
I like this author. Her short stories are amazing. This book was entertaining and based on what appeared to be an Abbott and Costello relatinship between two comics. It provides a lot of insight into that life but I was just hoping for a bit more. Especially from someone whose writing I really do admire.
"disappointing"
I really liked the presumed innocent book. This one is a sad disappointment. Rusty is now seems more egotistical and self serving. The ending is a bit of a let down in terms of surprise or ingenuity. The only good part was the cross exam. No more for me. This one had way to much fluff and filler with no real surprise, involvement with the characters or much of anything
