"Sorry I was wrong"
I am sorry to say I did not give this reader much of a chance when I wrote my first review of this book. It was very different that the other James Lee Burke books I have read and did not seem to work for me. I recently tried it again and I now realize that once Mark Hammer got his characters developed his reading was not half bad. Not a good as Will Patton but not as bad as I first thought. As usual the story was great. James Lee Burke is one of the best writers of our age. My apologies to Mr Hammer.

"Dexter is Dead!"
This is the absolute worst book I have ever listened to. In fact I stopped after part 1 and took a break for a week. After convincing myself it had to get better I finished it. I was wrong, it never got better. It's hard to believe the same author that penned Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter wrote this drivel. It was as bad if not worse than the last one which SUCKED.In fact since Dearly Devoted Dexter this series has been headed off the tracks and has now officially "Jumped the Shark". So as of now I am done with literary Dexter and will stick with TV Dexter. At least TV Dex seems to regained his soul this season and is hopefully back on track as my favorite Serial Killer. The Dexter in this book is weak and soulless with no redeeming qualities. It got so bad in fact that I found I was rooting for the bad guy to capture and kill this poor sad soulless Dexter just to save his children (and us) from his boring lackluster self.
My advise is save your money and find something else to listen to, audible has lots of great books to choose from, unfortunately this is NOT one of them.
"Not worth the time or the credit"
Its about half the as long as his other books and sad to say its not even half as good. It repeats the same things over and over!! I love all the other Sword of Truth books but this ones not so much. Save your time and money and pass this one up.
"WOW! What a terrible Dexter Novel."
I love Dexter and his Dark Passenger, but I did not even like this weak kneed, worry wart version of my favorite serial killer. Where is the Sociopath I have come to love who embraces his Dark Passenger in the beautiful moonlight? The one who follows Harry's code and seeks to right wrong in his own twisted way. To tell the truth I hated this book and in fact almost didn't finish it. I thought the author was okay as a reader, but his writing this time, in fact since the second Dexter book, sucked! Please bring back the Dexter we love, the one that was good enough for a TV series to based on. The one who loves his Dark Passenger and will train Astrid and Cody in the Harry Code and get rid of boring Brian the DEAD brother!
"WOW! What a great book!"
Stephen King must be one proud Dad. Joe Hill is at least as good as his Dad if not better. I loved this book and I am not a great reader of scary tale. I liked King's "Different Seasons" best of all his books. Anyway this is a great story with a fast paced plot and well defined characters. I listened to it nonstop on my iPod I couldn’t stop. Stephen Lang does a terrific job reading this book too. The best book I have bought in several years.
"All I Can Say is WOW!!!!!"
Once again Martin has left me speachless with his storytelling. His imagination is boundless and his writing is amazing. Of course having Roy Dotrice as a reader is a great choice too. I will be waiting with baited breath on the edge of my seat for "A Feast for Crows". Then another long wait on tenderhooks for "A Dance with Dragons" After that God only knows how I will last until the next and perhaps final book is done. I love this series and this writer and though I hate the wait, in some ways I hope it never ends. But, someone tell George to write faster. PLEASE!!!
"WOW What a GREAT Book!!!!"
Sorry to say it, but I disagree with the other three reviews posted here. I think the reader, Roy Dotrice is great and if you had trouble understanding him maybe its your audio equipment and not the reader. I downloaded the book in format #2 and listened to it on my G3 PowerBook thru my trucks sound system with a cassette adapter and I had no trouble understanding Mr. Dotrice. As to the story, WOW! Its one of the best, if not THE best SiFi/Fantasy books I have ever read or in this case listened to. George R.R. Martin weaves a story that you never want to stop. The characters are wonderfully portrayed, and the plot lines though complex are easy to follow. I can't wait for audible to get the next two to find out what happens next.
"ICK!"
James Patterson has been slipping and Alex Cross is wearing thin. But, this book is so bad that by the end I was hoping, no praying that Alex Cross would get killed so Patterson couldn't write yet another dreary Alex Cross novel. The story line in this one is weak and so poorly constructed I was shocked it was published. I kept hoping it would get better but it never did it just kept getting worse and worse as it went on.. The one bright spot was Alex's new love intrest Jamila did not get kidnapped or killed...YET. On top of all this he has turned Kile Craig into a weak, imitation Hannibal Lecter want'ta'be who Cross goes to for advise though it's is never clear why. Then with people being murdered in the same way all over the country and with Cross and Sampson killing others and breaking into houses and bumbling around no one but Cross it seems can get the connection or any connection. PLEASE!!! And any Viet Nam Vet will be as insulted by the final reveal as I was I am sure. Now Cross is in the FBI and I can only imagine what kind of BS cases will come next. Well this is the last James Patterson book for me, they have been getting worse for some time now but this is one too many. Someone please tell Patterson to stop or at least take a break to try to recapture what he had when he started.
If you're smart you'll miss this Alex Cross outing. I sure wish I had.
