I think this story suffered from the lack of enthusiastic narration, the story is excellent, the narration left me feeling like I missed something. The characters are wonderful, admirable, but it just doesn't really ever take off. I enjoyed the details, the inner workings of the characters, but the narration did not do the story justice. I enjoy Baldacci, and will continue to follow his work, I think if I read this book I would have enjoyed it more.
I have been so captivated by this series of books, they are excellent. The narration by Roy Dotrice is so masterful it adds much to the book. I felt the others were full of story and adventure, this one left me unsatisfied. This book was not of the caliber of the rest of his series, I felt he had nothing to say, and no direction in this one. The others you got the impression he had so much to tell us we couldn't wait to turn the page, this one I felt he lost the intrigue, the fire. I hope he recovers to add to this incredible story, I can't wait to see who winds up being King/Queen and who gets beheaded!!!
I love Jack Reacher, he is one of a kind. I felt the last book was not up to par, this one is fast paced and entertaining. The author actually let some of Reacher's human traits come through, just a wee bit, this is Reacher! Those of you who know Reacher from the inception will be glad to know he's back on track, kicking ass and taking names!
I felt let down, after reading the first book, Monster Hunters Inc. This one was not as well put together, Earl is one lovable character, but I expected more.
I really enjoyed this book, it pulls you in quickly and completely. This is one of those books, stories, that the narrator can make or break the story. Roy Dotrice MAKES the book come alive, he is masterful. The voice inflection, pitch, accents, tones, he is a wonderful narrator. Buckle up, you will find yourself thinking about this book and the characters as you go through your day.
I will usually always struggle through a book I spent money on. This one is terminal, the narration is poor, at best, the story is very hard to get into, impossible to stay with. I would not recommend.
This story is so creative it really takes a while to appreciate how intricate Reginald Hill is. This is like a painting done with words, you can see, feel, touch the characters. Wonderful talent in developing each character, the story takes you through the life of a brilliant, dark, troubled man. The success and failures, betrayals at a level you can't imagine. This book pulls you in, and keeps you "there". Really enjoyable.
I listen to audio books to be entertained, sometimes I don't want to be enlightened, just entertained, this book does just that. The characters are brilliantly developed, you find yourself worrying about the character! That's entertainment, the narrator helps make the antagonist real, and real scary! I laughed and worried, and fretted, well worth the credit. I have not ever listened to this genre, but it has opened my horizons, I will always think of this story when I see a covered bridge, or an old triumph motor bike, or hear Christmas music, it's insane, loved it.
