"Good, however...."
Probably not.
I'm reading the whole series, the characters are addictive. My problem is that Rachel is a flaming idiot. I spend half the time yelling at her or thinking that she really deserves to die for making such inane choices. I love Ivy, Janks and the rest - but be warned; your favorite characters in this series are not safe. People do die in some of the books.
"blah"
Marla is an interesting character, but the book had no real plot or purpose and I felt no sympathy or affinity to her. I'll probably give the 2nd book a shot to see if it picks up now that she has established her characters.
I like the sorcery, and the fact that it was something Marla had to work hard to learn.
She puts an odd inflection on things that do not need it and pauses to much between words.
Perhaps this will set up the series so that the other books can move smoothly.
"Disturbing, and not in a good way"
The upside to this book is hearing Lorelei King again and the supernatural set up had potential, but the plot really revolved around Charley's obsession with a guy that molested and threatened to rape her when she was 15. Not Cool. So all of the "romance" made me gag and squirm uncomfortably.
I'm not sure if I will read any more of this series - if I do it will be because Lorelei King is my favorite narrator.
No, just from this author.
Gag? And teach girls that rape and being held against your will isn't sexy.
"Rachel's still stupid as ever, not doing a thing"
Probably not, my friends and I are law enforcement/fighter types and it's too damn annoying listening to Rachel f-up every single time she's attacked. She has ridiculously great weapons and she just freezes and lets the bad guys beat the crap out of her. I can not believe she is supposed to be a trained 'runner'. Kim Harrison can write, but Tink's titties she definitely isn't a fighter. Or even a watcher of Law and Order episodes....The play between the characters is good though, and I'm invested enough in the gang to keep listening. Rachel does seem to be getting better with her choices - not good - but better, and that makes the book much less irritating that some of the others. Honestly, I always think that Rachel deserves the painful situations she gets into and I don't care about her survival all that much. I do love all of the support characters though, and I listen to the books largely to see what happens with them.
*sigh* I'm sure it will be the next in the series. Finishing a series is a compulsion, and I have to get unbelievably bored or upset not to finish one. In fact, it has only happened once.
She is great at giving life to the characters, though I will say that she messed up her voices a few times in this book. She would get confused maybe and say a line in the wrong voice before realizing who was supposed to be talking and switch over.
I'm not sure.
"Super irritated!"
Yeah, I'd make it a real Bloodhound files book that starts off with the cliff hanger from the last book. WTH?
"It's good......for half a book."
Getting to know Savannah as a complex, adult character.
Maybe, but I'm pretty pissed that I now have to pay another 20 bucks to find out what happens. The story doesn't wrap up, major things are just left hanging. It's like a tv season finale, but instead of having a big 2 hour finale she just wrote half the story and then sold it as a full book. It's much shorter than the others without even finishing the story. I'm so mad right now that I don't even want to buy any more of her books, although I am too attached to this series not to buy the last 2. I think I'll move on to another writer after this though.
She did a good job.
