When Indian Princess Alexandrina is left penniless by the sudden death of her father, the Maharaja of Brindor, Queen Victoria grants her a grace-and-favor home in Hampton Court Palace. Though rumored to be haunted, Alexandrina and her lady's maid, Pooki, have no choice but to take the Queen up on her offer. Aside from the ghost sightings, Hampton Court doesn't seem so bad. The princess is soon befriended by three eccentric widows who invite her to a picnic with all the palace's inhabitants, for which Pooki bakes a pigeon pie. But General-Major Bagshot dies after eating said pie....

Would you try another book from Julia Stuart and/or Hannah Curtis?

Probably won't try another book by either. I dislike writing negative reviews, but I found the story boring and the narration unpleasant to my ear. I kept listening, waiting for the story to get better, but unfortunately it never did for me. I guess I'm a person who likes a more active plot that draws one into the story, and this never did. I love British stories, TV, etc but this didn't meet my expectations.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Ken Follet

How could the performance have been better?

The English accent did not sound authentic to me.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disappointment, boredom, frustration.

Code Name Verity is a compelling, emotionally rich story with universal themes of friendship and loyalty, heroism and bravery. Two young women from totally different backgrounds are thrown together during World War II: one a working-class girl from Manchester, the other a Scottish aristocrat, one a pilot, the other a wireless operator. Yet whenever their paths cross, they complement each other perfectly and before long become devoted friends. But then a vital mission goes wrong....

It was hard to stop listening to this; the narration was very good, the story intriguing about the very difficult, courageous & hazardous role of some women during

This is the second J P Beaumont book I've downloaded, but will will be the last. The narrator's interpretation was loud, grating, & whining that detracted from the story. Give me Scott Brick any time.

Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

    Story

The suspense never ended with new revelations continuing throughout the story. The narrator did a very good job, and I found myself having a difficult time turning off my Ipod. As this was a continuation of the previous Kay Scarpetta book it might have been difficult to follow the story line had one not read the previous book, but the author drew in the key components to make the story flow. The surprise ending was truly that; a surprise. Highly recommend this book.
