"Great read!!!"
Enjoyed this book very much and was delighted to get to know John Adams, his family and his life. At times it seemed like the politics of today but then, at other times, I felt transported back to the late 1700's and learned a great deal about life in those days. As always, I am happy to be living in this time but equally happy to learn so much about life long ago. Well written, keeps your attention throughout the entire book (for the most part) and wonderfully narrated.
"Riveting read!!!!"
Loved everything about this book. It grabbed me at the very beginning and I learned so much from it and about Chinese culture. It was happy, sad, poignant and I wanted it to go on and on. Will be looking for something else by this author and contrary to what other reviewers said, I thought the narrator was terrific and part of the reason this book was so RIVETING. I had trouble putting it down and was sad when it was over.
"Reguired Reading"
I was a child born in the 30's, my Dad served in WWII and all my life I have been proud of what this nation did to bring that war to an end. I have always known the story of the persecution of the Jews and the Holocust but it was not until I listened to this book that I truly experienced the horror and I can only imagine. To have lived through it seems almost impossible to me. Great book, great author and great narrator. This book should be required reading for every high school student in this country. This story and sad moment in history must never be forgotten.
"So you thought you knew all the facts...."
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I could visualize every scene, the narrator was terrific and I learned so much about John Wilkes Booth and the entire cast of characters involved in his escape from Washington and eventual capture.. A must read book for anyone who loves this country's history and a must read for anyone who loves a good story, written well. Bravo Mr. Swanson!!
"Good Book"
I would recommend this book as the story keeps you wondering what is around the next corner and I could not put it down. I did, however, not even like the main female character, Elise, and I think this was due mostly to the narrator. I found the voice of Elise very irritating. In spite of this I enjoyed it for the most part. Wish the other female character (Dede) had been developed more - we hardly got to know her.
"Riveting............."
This was an amazing "listen". So hard to even imagine in one's wildest dreams what these men and boys endured. The life lasting effect must have been immense - a story no author could pen without the facts to guide him. I am a history lover but would recommend this book to all those who are not as well as those who are. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Mayflower" but was awestruck by this story.
"Couldn't Put it Down"
This is the first Jodi Picoult book I have read but it certainly will not be the last. I have lived in PA in the past and know a little about the Amish and their beliefs but this book gave me more knowledge about their fascinating lifestyle. The characters in this book all came to life for me, the story was spellbinding and you never knew what was going to happen in the next sentance right up to the very end. I highly recommend this book and although one reviewer did not think so, I found the narrators to be quite good.
