Raybould Marsh is a British secret agent in the early days of World War II, haunted by something strange he saw on a mission during the Spanish Civil War: a German woman with wires going into her head who looked at him as if she knew him. It wasn’t his imagination; the wired woman can see into the future and use her knowledge to twist the present. In fact, Marsh soon discovers that the Nazis are running missions with people who have special powers....

Ian Tregillis has written a tale of adventure, action, cyborg mystery and the occult injecting them into the iconic history of WWII. The story trail blazers into a unique place in fiction & for this listener doesn't follow the expected. First rate can't wait for more. See The Coldest War.

Rossamnd Bookchild stands accused of not truly being a human at all, but of being a monster. Even the protection of Europe, the Branden Rose the most feared and renowned monster-hunter in all the Half-Continent might not be enough to save him. Powerful forces move against them both, intent on capturing Rossamnd whose existence some believe may hold the secret to perpetual youth.

    Gayle says: "A Page-Turning Tale!"
"As good as the Harry Potter books"
    Overall

Dont be fooled by this series this is no childs tale. Horrors both man and beast run through these pages and you will soar with telling of the tale of young Rosamund Bookchild. Expertly illustrated by the author himself (not that you can see this in an audio book) open your eyes and mind to world of the Monster blood tattoo series you wont be disappointed.

Ancient Egypt. Land of the Pharaohs. A kingdom built on gold. A legend shattered by greed. Now the Valley of Kings lies ravaged by war, drained of its lifeblood, as weak men inherit the cherished crown. On the eve of the festival of Osiris, the loyal subjects of the Pharaoh gather in Thebes to pay tribute to their leader.

Exploding with all the passion and rage of a bygone time, River God is a masterpiece of historical writing.

This was my first expereince with a Wilbur Smith tale. It does not disappoint. If you wish to come to know the time of the Pharaohs then look no further. Smith writes history suberbly and masks it as a work of fiction. Read on and come to know the Egypt of legend.

King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies.

    Overall

The crescendo of the Farseer series. See what lay in wait for Fitz as he once again takes his place as the changer. He and the Fool are together again to change the world of the six dutchies forever. Robin Hobb again bears the reader to the skill and the wit in a world that the reader never wishes to leave. In this our hero becomes more than we can imagine and gives it all up for his king.
Sadly the Tawny man series which continues the tale of Fitz & the Fool has yet to find its way to Audible so savoir this masterpiece unitl then.

Young Fitz, the illegitimate son of the noble Prince Chivalry, is ignored by all royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has had him tutored him in the dark arts of the assassin. He has barely survived his first, soul-shattering mission, and when he returns to the court, he is thrown headfirst into the tumult of royal life.

If you have read Assassins Apprentice then prepare to rejoin Fitz in his life at Buckeep. As he fast approaches manhood he learns more of his strengths, weaknesses and loves. As always Robin Hobb intertwines the story with a familarity that makes you think of the characters as friends & in the case of Regal enemies. If you havent expereinced Robin Hobb do so NOW

With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

    Jake says: "Great book"
    "Entry book to brilliance"
    Overall

If you have not read Robin Hobb then listen to her tales.
This is not a mere fantasy tale this is an epic told through the eyes of the catalyst Fitz from boy hood to man hood in the service of his king.
This is the first of 3 books, Assassins Apprentice book 1 introduces our hero as he is thrust into a life of the royal court as the royal bastard of the prince who shall be king, be prepared if you love this book with each book the tale only gets better.
Robin Hobb tells the story with a wonderful subtlety that doesn't hit you over the head with sword and sorcery but explores it through the fragility and humanity of her characters.

Johannes Cabal, a brilliant scientist and notorious snob, is single-mindedly obsessed in heart and soul with raising the dead. Well, perhaps not soul... He hastily sold his years ago in order to learn the laws of necromancy. But now, tormented by a dark secret, he travels to the fiery pits of Hell to retrieve it. Satan, who is incredibly bored these days, proposes a little wager: Johannes has one year to persuade 100 people to sign over their souls or he will be damned forever.

Stuart says: "Methadone your Gaiman or Pratchett fix"
    "Hidden gem"
    Overall

If you are seeking that hidden gem seek no more. Jonathan L Howard has done for horror what Terry Pratchet did for fantasy. Not that I believe this is horror this is more paranormal (black comedy at times) but horror is how book shops seem to class this piece of brilliance.
Enjoy it then move onto Book 2 The Detective.
