The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

What a fantastic author and character he has created. A definite looser in the magic world, but bulls it out when it matters. He has created an interesting secret world, an adult harry potter - perhaps not quite as refined - but with similarities.

I wish I could continue listening to the next in the series. I look longingly at the paper print versions waiting for them to come to audible.

So my recommendation is not only for this book, but to start with Book 1 and work your way through. Great stuff.

Airframe is nonstop Crichton: the extraordinary mixture of super suspense and authentic information on a subject of compelling interest that has been a Crichton hallmark since The Andromeda Strain.

I really enjoyed this one, having read most. A lot of - could this really happen - definitely exists in the book given corporate greed these days. MC has been writing before his time with technology and vents that could happen in most of his books. A really good read.

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

I see all the bad reviews, but I thought the book was very good. I have enjoyed all of Michael Crichtons books and find him a fascinating read. Many of them turned into films of varying success, but I find the mixture of technology and story very compelling. I would recommend the book very much.

Tom Dreyfus is a Prefect, a law enforcement officer with the Panoply. His beat is the multifaceted utopian society of the Glitter Band, that vast swirl of space habitats orbiting the planet Yellowstone, the teeming hub of a human interstellar empire spanning many worlds. His current case: investigating a murderous attack against one of the habitats that left 900 people dead, a crime that appalls even a hardened cop like Dreyfus.

The narrator John Lee did it for me. Listening to the James Clavell books - including Shogun - where he narrates lead me to this book. John Lee is fantastic.

This book is a great read. A good story and good characters. An interesting idea and worrying if we ever get there!

A bit of detective and a bit of Sci Fi. I listen to a lot of Michael Connolly and Ian Rankin and love the underdog but clever detective - Dreyfus here is the same, but set in a a completely different scenario to what I usually read.

I really enjoyed it and could not stop.

The setting is Hong Kong, 1963. The action spans scarcely more than a week, but these are the days of high adventure, from kidnapping and murder to financial double-dealing and natural catastrophes: fire, flood, and landslide. Yet they are days filled as well with all the mystery and romance of Hong Kong, the heart of Asia, rich in every trade: money, flesh, opium, power.

Lily says: "Great story, great narrator"
    "What a read (or listen!)"

I read Shogun all those years ago, watched the mini-series and just picked it up again recently. This then lead me onto Noble House. What a story and so well narrated. John Lee has to be one of the best that I have heard so far.

Stephen King and Peter Straub reintroduce you to Jack Sawyer of The Talisman, once a precocious boy traversing the Territories to save his mother and her "twinner," now a retired homicide detective drawn back to his past.

Jennifer says: "Magnificent Sequel -- Riveting"
    "Had to stop"

I read the reviews here and noticed some about the narrator and the fact that it is a little boring. I also read some favourable reviews, so I went ahead. I didn't finish it - I did find it very long winded and did not like the narrator. I am sure some will like it given some of the reviews but can understand why some, like me, will really struggle with it.
