I really enjoyed this book. Historical fiction is my favorite genre. This series reminds me of the Outlander books without the time travel. Very well written and entertaining from start to finish. I just started the last book and I know it's going to be a while before I find another book I enjoy as much as this series.

This one had me holding my breath with suspense in some parts. If you are looking for a fast-paced gripping adventure/suspense novel, you will enjoy this book. I liked it so much that I immediately downloaded Hurwitz's previous novel as well. ,

This is a very enjoyable novel. Yes, it is a romance, and will probably mostly appeal to women readers, but it is not 'typical' of that genre. Because of the travel and wonderful foodie appeal, it reminded me in some ways of Eat, Pray, Love. I particularly liked the maturity of the characters, both in age and life experience. The narration was excellent as well.

A great 'quest' story, well written and set in a fascinating time in US history. I loved the humanity and complexity of all the characters, good and bad. This is just a really good book, and I highly recommend it.

I got this book on a sale. I probably wouldn't have gotten it otherwise, based on the description. I sure would have missed out, because this is a fantastic book! Well written, fast paced and just a great story. I can't imagine anyone NOT liking this book. I highly recommend it. Narration was excellent, as well.

This novel about Ghengis Khan was fairly interesting, at least the first part, but got increasingly boring as it went along, and I didn't even finish it. I got this book because I loved the Conquerer Series about Ghengis Khan which was written by Conn Iggulden. I highly recommend skipping this one and trying those.

It's not the writing or necessarily the story, which is based on actual people, that made me dislike this book. It was well written. The main characters were just impossible for me to like or even care about. Of course I knew about the Lindberghs, but I guess this is a case of "the more you know, the less you like". Charles is arrogant, domineering, a terrible husband and father, and antisemitic to top it off. Anne is a weak doormat of a woman who allows Charles to dominate and psychologically abuse not only her, but her children as well. I found almost nothing to admire about either one of them, and mostly had a feeling of aggravation and disgust the whole time I was listening to this book. Not an enjoyable listening experience.

The narration was fine, I guess it suited Anne's self-pitying, weak character.

This is a really good story, nearly ruined by the narrator's painfully slow reading, mispronunciations, smacking and swallowing noises, bizarre pauses in the middle of words and sentences. The recording quality is equally bad. Lots of background fuzz. If the story wasn't so good, I wouldn't have listened past the first hour.

I don't care whether or not MC actually wrote this book or when he wrote it, it is so entertaining and chock full of action that I hated for it to end. Also, the narration was very well done.

I'm a big Gabaldon fan, and this book did not disappoint. But the main reason I wrote this review is because I almost didn't get it due to the other reviews criticizing the narrator. I thought he did a great job--loved the 'lite' Scottish accent without all the rolling r's and stuff.

First of all, I'm intimidated to even review a Cormac McCarthy book. That being said, if you've read other McCarthy novels, you pretty much know what to expect. The writing is....awe inspiring. I listened to the first chapter 4 times before I even continued.

I was really feeling a strong Faulkner vibe, from the beautiful prose to the surreal gothic Old-South setting. As when reading Faulkner, I sometimes had to snap myself back to the story-line after realizing that I was drifting lazily along the surface of the lovely descriptive passages.

So, if you love and appreciate good literature, get this novel. If you love it, but don't like the idea of rolling in the deep for 20 hours, get The Road instead. Personally, I savored all 20 hours, and the story was enjoyable as well. Mostly pretty dark and intense, but a few hilarious moments and characters that had me laughing out loud. I highly recommend for those who are looking for a big ribeye steak of a book.
