When her goddaughter is arrested, Isabel Vernon is startled to discover that the child of her memory has become an overweight, shaven-headed environmentalist and that Isabel herself is now regarded as Emily Frost's next of kin. Emily is then released on bail to the Vernons in the villlage of Fordswick. But her presence in the Vernons' house proves troubling, and is deepening the tensions already within it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Set in England, the author successfully captures the everyday world of the characters. A totally engaging book with an intriguing plot. This was my first Margaret Yorke novel and I will definitely be downloading more from this author!

It begins as a statistical oddity: a spike in children born with acute speech delays. Physically normal in every way, these children never speak and do not respond to speech; they don't learn to read, don't learn to write. As the number of cases grows to an epidemic level, theories spread. Maybe it's related to a popular antidepressant; maybe it's environmental. Or maybe these children have special skills all their own.

I preordered this book and started listening as soon as it arrived. As a rule I enjoy books that look at the world through the eyes of people perceived as being different to the norm.

This book looks in on a group known as 'Silents', children born without the ability to communicate with language.

Sounds fascinating doesn't it, but here's the downfall, it is told through a series of interviews.....far, far too many interviews. It is slow, it is draw out, it is BORING!!!

Three hours (26 chapters) in, eleven hours ( 81 chapters ) still to go and I don't even want to skip to the last chapter, ... I am so bored I don't care what happens in the end.
I'll be returning 'The Silent History' pity I can't get a refund on the time I wasted.

After the presidents' helicopter, Marine One, goes down in a brutal thunderstorm, the government blames the European manufacturer of the helicopter, accusing them of killing the president. Senate investigations and Justice Department accusations multiply as Mike Nolan, a Marine Corps reserve helicopter pilot and trial attorney in civilian life, is hired to defend the company from the criminal investigations and a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the most notorious lawyer in America.

Marine One is engaging, suspenseful, interesting AND, best of all, is without the bad language that has become so common place in books.

The story is about a helicopter crash in which the US President is killed and the subsequent trial against the manufactures of the helicopter.

I great listen which kept me glued to my earphones. I will be looking at more audiobooks from this author.

When Cal Weaver stops at a red light on a rainy night while driving home, he ignores the bedraggled-looking teenaged girl trying to hitch a lift. Even when she starts tapping on his window. But when she says, 'hey, aren't you Scott's dad?' and he realizes she's one of his son's classmates, he can't really ignore her. OK, so giving a ride to a teenage girl might not be the smartest move, but how much harm could it do? Over the next 24 hours Cal is about to find out.

The story starts off quite well but really drags towards the middle, the themes felt old.....bad cops intimidating innocent citizens etc. I persevered and though it felt a bit far fetched at times I enjoyed the book overall.

While not his best book it had enough twists and turns to keep me engaged while driving and doing housework.

This was my 5th audiobook by this author. I would recommend 'Trust Your Eyes' , ''No Time for Goodbye' and 'Never Look Away' before 'A Tap on the Window'.

Eve Lattimore’s family is like every other on their suburban street, with one exception. Her son Tyler has a rare medical condition that makes him fatally sensitive to light, which means heavy curtains and deadlocked doors protect him during the day and he can never leave the house except at night. For Eve, only constant vigilance stands between an increasingly restless teenage son and the dangers of the outside world.

What would I have done,I kept asking myself as I was drawn into Eve's world during the aftermath of a horrific accident that would forever change the lives of the residents of a quiet suburban street.

Eve, the mother of an XP child, a condition where exposure to sunlight and uv light is eventually fatal, finds herself in the centre of the tragedy. This novel is about the choices Eve makes to protect her child as well as the effect of those choices on the rest of the family and the community.

An intriguing book which I couldn't put down. I will be looking out for more books by this author.

For almost a quarter of a century, John Grisham's A Time to Kill has captivated readers and listeners with its raw exploration of race, retribution, and justice. Now, its hero, Jake Brigance, returns to the courtroom in a dramatic showdown as Ford County again confronts its tortured history. Filled with the intrigue, suspense and plot twists that are the hallmarks of the world's favourite storyteller, Sycamore Row is the thrilling story of the elusive search for justice in a small American town.

A high-profile attorney in the middle of a leave of absence following a personal tragedy is drawn back into the legal arena amidst a media firestorm when he agrees to represent a popular rap artist accused of brutally murdering his pop star girlfriend. With its powerful voice, pause-resisting tension, and strong cast of characters, Adam Mitzner’s novels are reminiscent of such best-selling authors as Scott Turow and John Grisham.

I really did not enjoy this book and certainly would not recommend it to a friend.

Comparisons to Grisham and the likes are misleading. 'A Case of Redemption' lacks the rich layers of intrigue present in a good courtroom drama.

In my opinion, this book is a bit like a 'Law and Order' episode. Characters are stereotypical and/or over the top and character development is weak. Then there are the protagonist numerous sexual encounters with his 'gorgeous' and obviously 'much younger' assistant.......really, who cares!

I wanted to stop listening many times and often found myself fast forwarding through chapters. I continued listening however in the hope that the ending would be worth it. Well it wasn't.

This was not a page turner. I wasn't filled with suspense. I didn't even enjoy it.

I thought I was really going to enjoy this series and would have if it wasn't for all the sex scenes. It was as though the author was vacillating between writing porn and a mystery novel. A real pity, it could have been a good series.

I have never been much of a Jodi Picoult fan but thought I would give this book a go because of the many positive reviews. I am so pleased that I did! It is easily the most moving audiobook that I have listened to.

Three stories in one, the book was not what I expected and truth be told, I probably would not have purchased it if I had paid more attention to the subject matter. Fortunately, I did purchase it and was hooked from the very beginning.

Not light listening but certainly a captivating story wriiten by a masterful storyteller.

    Bravo Ms Picoult.
