  • Dark Edge of Honor

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Aleksandr Voinov, Rhianon Etzweiler
    • Narrated By Jack LeFleur
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Sergei Stolkov is a faithful officer, though his deepest desires go against the Doctrine. A captain with the invading Coalition forces, he believes that self-sacrifice is the most heroic act, and his own needs are only valid if they serve the state. Mike, an operative planted within Cirokko's rebels, has been ordered to seduce Sergei and pry from him the Coalition's military secrets. His mission is a success, but as he captures Sergei's heart, Mike is tempted by his own charade and falls in love.

    L. Hew says: "Brilliant reader, Brilliant book"
"if you like F-bombs, buy this book :-/"
What would have made Dark Edge of Honor better?

Not sure why some people think just because they can put F-bombs in books, that they have to put as many as they can.

Perhaps the author's vocabulary is just limited.

What a waste of 1 credit. I want my money back.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. Wish book details would list things such as explicit language. Then I wouldn't waste money on books which have to rely on f-bombs and others to get through a story.

  • A White Coat Is My Closet

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Jake Wells
    • Narrated By Randy Fuller

Zack Sheldon doesn't have time to be lonely. He's in his last year as a pediatric resident, almost married to the job, and busy with the joys and sorrows that come with providing medical care to children. Professionally, he's confident, accomplished, and respected. But personally he's too insecure to approach a sexy man like Sergio Quartulli, or even to imagine that Sergio might be attracted to him.

    Orlando says: "I'm wondering why?"
"just about every cliche can be found in this book"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have a couple of coworkers who would probably like it. I sure didn't.

What was most disappointing about Jake Wells’s story?

    the narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I didn't even finish it, only got about half way through it. So if it had any redeeming qualities, maybe there were in the second half.

  • The Dead Sun: Star Force, Book 9

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By B. V. Larson
    • Narrated By Mark Boyett
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Kyle Riggs sits uneasily upon Earth’s throne. He’s liberated his homeworld from a tyrant, only to replace him. In The Dead Sun, the ninth book of the Star Force Series, the Great War between life and the machines reaches its final chapter. Both sides have new technology and expanded industrial bases. Star Force and the machines attempt to exterminate one another in a final, glorious conflict. Along the way, Riggs finally learns who his real friends and enemies are. The Dead Sun is a military science fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson.

Michael G. Kurilla says: "Riggs finally finds some peace"
    "perfect end for the series"
Would you listen to The Dead Sun again? Why?

Dead Sun started off as "another" Star Force book, battling alien races, fighting for survival. I even took a couple weeks off, after getting about halfway through. Then it all turned around! So many unexpected twists in the story. So glad I started it again. Great ending for the series.

    • Narrated By Luke Daniels
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Thor, the Norse god of thunder, is worse than a blowhard and a bully - he’s ruined countless lives and killed scores of innocents. After centuries, Viking vampire Leif Helgarson is ready to get his vengeance, and he’s asked his friend Atticus O’Sullivan, the last of the Druids, to help take down this Norse nightmare. One survival strategy has worked for Atticus for more than two thousand years: stay away from the guy with the lightning bolts. But things are heating up in Atticus’s home base of Tempe, Arizona....

    Hallie says: "Love this series!"
    "same story, different volume"
    What disappointed you about Hammered?

it was the same story as the previous books, just with more F bombs. In this one they just go after Thor, but otherwise it is all the same. Nothing special here.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kevin Hearne again?

    meh, maybe.

Would you be willing to try another one of Luke Daniels’s performances?

What character would you cut from Hammered?

    Thor. And Coyote.

    Any additional comments?

stupid. a waste of my time. bleh.

  • The Druid Stone

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Heidi Belleau, Violetta Vane
    • Narrated By Ian Ruane
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

After inheriting a hexed druid stone, Sean starts reliving another man's torture and death...every single night. And only one person can help. Cormac Kelly runs a paranormal investigation business and doesn't have time to deal with tourists like Sean. But Sean has real magic in his pocket, and even though Cormac is a descendant of legendary druids, he finds himself out of his depth...and not because Sean's the first man he's felt anything for in a long time. The pair develop an intensely sexual bond, but are threatened at every turn when Sean's case attracts the unwelcome attention of the sidhe lords of ancient Ireland.

Keith says: "Imagination Run Amok -- In A Good Way!"
What disappointed you about The Druid Stone?

I made it through 6 chapters, hoping it would get better and actually get somewhere. It never did.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Don't know yet. I'll start looking.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ian Ruane?

the narrator reminded me of a leprechaun. Had a hard time getting in to it.

What character would you cut from The Druid Stone?

meh, I don't know about cutting characters.

    Any additional comments?

this was a wasted credit. :-/

  • Star Trek Movie Tie-In

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Alan Dean Foster
    • Narrated By Zachary Quinto

In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution for the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world. Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.

    Katelyn says: "Excellent"
    "Best Star Trek yet!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! This is one of my favorite books ever. I love the idea of looking at Star Trek from the beginning, when the Enterprise crew could have first met. Quinto's narration is exciting and emotional, two things that are not always present in Star Trek of the past.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The part of this book that stands out the most to me involves Spock and his relationship with his mother and the emotion that Quinto gives to the scene when Spock's mother dies.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed over and over with things Kirk, in his cocky attitude, says to others, from the bar to the academy, and also with the way Bones responds to others. Best Star Trek yet.

  • The Help

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Kathryn Stockett
    • Narrated By Jenna Lamia, Bahni Turpin, Octavia Spencer, and others
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
    "One of my favorites"
What made the experience of listening to The Help the most enjoyable?

The different characters, especially Minny! Her sarcasm, her straight forward thoughts and responses, and some of the things she just says. I love the narrator who read the part of Minny!

  • Happy Accidents

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs)
    • By Jane Lynch, Carol Burnett (foreword)
    • Narrated By Jane Lynch, Carol Burnett
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the summer of 1974, a 14-year-old girl in Dolton, Illinois, had a dream - a dream to become an actress. But it was a long way from the South Side of Chicago to Hollywood, and it didn’t help that she’d recently dropped out of the school play, The Ugly Duckling, or that the Hollywood casting directors she wrote to replied that "professional training was a requirement". But the funny thing is, it all came true....

Merrill says: "Worth a listen, if you like Jane Lynch"
"So much fun to listen to! I love Jane Lynch!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Happy Accidents to be better than the print version?

Jane's infectious smile comes through in so many places in this book. Her reading makes me laugh throughout the entire book.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved hearing her talk about the different plays and shows she's been in, and how she got to where she is today.

  • The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 13 mins)
    • By Walter Moers
    • Narrated By Bronson Pinchot

Playful enough for young adult readers, yet as intricate and engaging as any work of literary fiction, The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear has the plot of a novel and the spontaneity and humor of a vintage comic book, making it already an instant cult classic.

Paul says: "Hillarious and fantastic book and great listen"
"great read, imaginative lives of lovable bear!"
    Any additional comments?

BlueBear was such a great character, he handled every adventure well, enjoying everything around him. I laughed many times, smiled at others.
Then towards the end he gets upset and throws out a g..d... - where in the world did that come from? SO UNNECESSARY in this book! Didn't fit the character at all. Very disappointed in that part. My overall view of the book went down after that.
