At the outbreak of World War I, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home.

A story told from a non-human perspective is unusual . . . but, to have one set during WWI is truly remarkable. The story is captivating, but (narrator) Dan Stevens does an incredible job of story telling.

Small-time private investigator Ray Lovell veers between paralysis and delirium in a hospital bed. But before the accident that landed him there, he'd been hired to find Rose Janko, the wife of a charismatic son of a traveling Gypsy family, who went missing seven years earlier. Half Romany himself, Ray is well aware that he's been chosen more for his blood than his investigative skills.

I purchased this audio book based on two things . . . First, Dan Stevens was the narrator and, in my opinion and without a doubt, Dan Stevens is one of the best narrators I've ever listened to. He truly enriches any book he reads. Second, after reading the reviews, it sounded like a worthwhile read.

The story was interesting, but it seemed to plod along. It took so long to get through the plot and then it suddenly ended. I liked the two main characters Ray Lovell and JJ and how they shared the story. I felt sympathetic toward both of them . . . especially JJ.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list. Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend and the other bad boy in her life....

Lorelei King has been an excellent reader for the Stephanie Plum series . . . but, she was given such a weak book to read that it doesn't matter. The story is vacuous and the series has lost it's spark. This book, like the last few, is a feeble attempt to keep a series going that the author appears to have lost her enthusiasm to make a sincere effort. Evanovich needs to make a decision . . . make an effort to capture the essence of the earlier books of this series or end it. I was sure there was something wrong when the books was nearing it's end because it's so short.

Be careful what you wish for. Traveling abroad with her mother at the turn of the 20th century to seek a titled husband, beautiful, vivacious Cora Cash, whose family mansion in Newport dwarfs the Vanderbilts’, suddenly finds herself Duchess of Wareham, married to Ivo, the most eligible bachelor in England. Nothing is quite as it seems, however: Ivo is withdrawn and secretive, and the English social scene is full of traps and betrayals.

"Dull and lacking in any imagination"
    Overall

This is one of the most boring books I have ever read or listened to! At first I thought it was taking time to get started and hoped it would pick up speed, interest, and intrigue as it progressed. Unfortunately, it just plodded along at a donkey's pace. It's a simple and contrived story that lacks any kind of originality.
