At 6:00 a.m. on the morning of October 3, 2009, Combat Outpost Keating was viciously attacked by Taliban insurgents. The 53 U.S. troops, having been stationed at the bottom of three steep mountains, were severely outmanned by nearly 400 Taliban fighters. Though the Americans ultimately prevailed, their casualties made it one of the war's deadliest battles for U.S. forces. And after more than three years in that dangerous and vulnerable valley a mere 14 miles from the Pakistan border, the U.S. abandoned and bombed the camp.

Would you try another book from Jake Tapper and/or Rob Shapiro?

I would not buy another Tapper book, but would listen to another performance by Mr. Shapiro.

What could Jake Tapper have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The strength of the Army is the diversity of the backgrounds, education, politics and points-of-view of its enlisted soldiers. Picking a side, then piling on the minutia to make your point, gets old fast. It would have been nice to have learned as much about the Afghan troops as the Americans. Also, I would have liked to have learned the reasoning that lead to the decisions made by "higher headquarters" that are critized in the book so I could make up my own mind.

World War Z: The Complete Edition is a new recording of Max Brooks’ best-selling novel, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, featuring 21 additional Hollywood A-list actors and sci-fi fan favorites performing stories not included in the original edition. New narrators include Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, Spiderman star Alfred Molina, The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont, rapper Common, Firefly star Nathan Fillion, Shaun of the Dead’s Simon Pegg, and members of the casts of Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes and more!

Kim Venatries says: "A Good Story with an All Star Cast but ABRIDGED"
"A Series of Poorly Written TV Scripts."

Would you try another book from Max Brooks and/or the narrators?

I would never waste another dime on a Max Brooks novel. The book is a series of vignettes told as "interviews" with the survivors of the Z war. The characters are one-dimensional and their stories are cliches from bad science fiction or straight-to-DVD movies. The narrators did the best they could with the unimaginative material, but when you are dealing with such poor material, it is hard to make it very entertaining.

    Any additional comments?

When I first recieved the book, I was disappointed because I had pre-ordered an Unabridged version of the "Movie Tie-in Edition," but when I began listening, I was glad it was abridged so my suffering came to an end faster.
