Jeannette Walls's memoir The Glass Castle was "nothing short of spectacular" (Entertainment Weekly). Now, in Half Broke Horses, she brings us the story of her grandmother, told in a first-person voice that is authentic, irresistible, and triumphant.

Kathryn says: "A BETTER BOOK THAN "THE GLASS CASTLE""
    "Ok, but slow"
    Overall

I found this book to be ok, but in was disappointed because I loved the glass castle and this was rather slow and a bit dull.

At the core of this book is an appalling double murder committed by two Mormon Fundamentalist brothers, Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a revelation from God commanding them to kill their blameless victims. Weaving the story of the Lafferty brothers and their fanatical brethren with a clear-eyed look at Mormonism's violent past, Krakauer examines the underbelly of the most successful homegrown faith in the United States, and finds a distinctly American brand of religious extremism.

Craig Hansen says: "Not bad, but a bit biased"
    "Powerful!!"
    Overall

A well researched book full of information about the Mormon religion and the dangers of religious fundamentalism. I love John Krakuer it was an amazing book.

While anger deserves our attention and respect, women still learn to silence our anger, to deny it entirely, or to vent it in a way that leaves us feeling helpless and powerless.

I was interested in reading this book and while it had some useful information I found it rather dull. I also found the narrator voice to be irratating.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
    "Loved it!!"

Awesome and inspiring story! Read this you will not be disappointed! I am not a fan of fiction and I truly enjoyed this book! Have a listen!

An interesting listen about a dramatic and traumatic lifestyle. I learned a lot about her youth, family life, and marriage and her strong relationship with her father.
