"Another page turner..."
I really enjoyed this book. Just as the others, it keeps you captivated from start to finish. If you did not like Angels & Demons or The DaVinci Code then you probably will not care much for this one either. I read them for what they are, page turning novels that blend reality with fiction. In that sence, a great book and a good narrator.
"Great Book!"
I really enjoyed this book! I should start by stating that I am an Orson Scott Card fan and have reall ALL of his books. I read several reviews stating that this book ended abruptly...and I guess it kind of did, but it isn't like it ended in the middle of a sentence or anything. It was an intro book to a series and ended much like many of Orson Scott Card's series books do. As a fan of the enderverse I really liked reading (listening) to this book. You do not have to have read any of the other enderverse books to understand this one...but I think it would be more enjoyable if you had.
Regarding the book itself...just like all the others it has an allstar cast/performance with the character development that I have grown to love in Card's works. This book tells the story about the lead up to the first formic war. Mazor makes a small appearance but mainly as a namesake...forshadowing that he will play a bigger role in the following books. I for one liked the book and am anxiously anticipating the next one.
"Bizarrely Entertaining"
I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the synopsis and reviews, but I am a fan of Streiber's work. I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. Other reviewers are correct when they say the author tries to tie everything paranormal into this book, and I think he did a great job of it. If you like aliens, ufo's, and paranormal stuff, you should love this book. Remember, this is a novel, not a biography. I suggest it to deep thinkers along the lines of the paranormal and supernatural.
"Much Better Than I Expected"
This book was the last Demille book that I had left to read. I read it last because it is VERY long and about Vietnam, which I anticipated would be a little uninteresting to me. I am, on the other hand, a Demille fan. Although the book is long, I really enjoyed it. Most of the book is filled with memories of the war and tons of descriptives. A review like I have written so far would more than likely turn me away from a book, but let me say again that I really enjoyed the book.
The main charecter is a Vietnam vet who is recruited to return to current day vietnam to investigate a crime committed during the war by Americans. Again, to me that sounds boring...but again, I thought it was good. If you don't have a tolerance for long books, there may be too many descriptives for you to make it all the way through.
I thought the narrator was great! (I have to admit that Scott Brick is one of my favorites and so is Nelson Demille, so them together is a must read to me)
Enjoy!!
"Breautiful Tragedy"
This book is fantastic. The characters are well developed and the humor is intelligent. The main character is quite obnoxious and repulsive, and you love him all the more. There is not a centralized plot, other than the life of the main character. Normally I have a hard time with a book that is just about the characters...but not this time. Give it a try for a great comedy.
"Short Story Collection"
I have ready most of Orson Card's books and am a huge fan. This book is very captivating and is great with character development as well as awesome narration. The only down side is that it is a collection of short stories centered around a main theme and I found myself wishing a few of the stories were longer. This is no Ender's Game...but if you like Card then this is a must read!
"3 Good Short Stories"
If you have read Ender's Game, this is a must read! I admit, there are a few things that do not exactly coincide with Ender's Game, but they are barely even noticable. I really enjoyed them and I hope you do to. If you have not read any of the Ender's Game series, do not start with this one.
"One of the Best Sci Fi books I've read"
This is one of my new favorite books. Scott Card puts so many elements into Enders Game that it seems real. I have also read several other of the Ender's Game series books and loved every one. I would recomend this book to anyone! If you have not listened to it or read it...I recommend you get it right now!
"Suprisingly captivating"
I try to stay away from big name authors...but I was pleased with this book. It started slow with the character backgrounds...but once it got going I couldn't put it down. Great read!
