In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology, Robert Langdon, is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces: Dante’s Inferno. Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust...before the world is irrevocably altered.

What did you love best about Inferno?

I wouldn't say love, I would say simply enjoyed this book. It is a cool concept that he is trying to recover his memory in the process but its starting to sound like a repetitive storyline he is on. Time crunch, cross country travelings, seemingly non exhausted main carachters who never sleep and still remain clearheaded and knowledge of random facts while barely out of grasp of the enemy. He's still got great writing skill and nice plot twists, but I predicted the ending in the first half of the book and yup, I was right.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Nope, predicted the ending early on. But still listened because I like art history and he's a good story teller.

Have you listened to any of Paul Michael’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nope, but he did quite good considering.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope, just slightly aggravated as it took 18 hours to tell this predictable tale.

    Any additional comments?

Good story, well written, good timing, but predictable.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, the life and adventures of this man is so fun to listen to and pass along to others.

What did you like best about this story?

The whimsical optimism of the main charachter Allen - a feisty, rolliker and humdinger of a chap that simply figures all of lifes problems can be solved with a vodka, a 'why not' venture and an explosion. Sounds like what my relatives would do!

What does Steven Crossley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Crossley brings a sense of identity towards each charachter in the story. Well done!

Who was the most memorable character of The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared and why?

Allen of course, he sounds like a blend of a few of my relatives but without the optimism, but definatlely the 'why not?' sense of life.

    Any additional comments?

Overall - highly reccommend this fun book!

What did you love best about The Wonderful Wizard of Oz?

Its a light, imaginative, richly detailed and animated by timeless characters. Easily written for the child in all of us at any age.

What other book might you compare The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to and why?

I think to ask this question is to ask, what part? The storyline aspect? Alice in Wonderland, small girl in new world while trying to get home. In imagination of the new world? Peter Pan's Neverland. In timeless classic appeal? Everything the Bronte sisters ever wrote.

What about Anne Hathaway’s performance did you like?

Her capture of the small characters ( like the Field Mouse Queen) as well as the major characters. Really enjoyed listening to her!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did! A long flight from Florida to Washington DC. Yup, broke the rules and listened even during the no electronics time-frame on my flight. Light and infinately better than the captains voice about how we had to wait additional time till takeoff. Yup, daredevil.

Father of the novelist Alexandre Dumas, Alex Dumas has become, through his son's books, the model for a captivating modern protagonist: The wronged man in search of justice. Born to a black slave mother and a fugitive white French nobleman in Saint-Domingue (present-day Haiti), Alex Dumas was briefly sold into bondage but then made his way to Paris where he was schooled as a sword-fighting member of the French aristocracy. He was only 32 when he was given command of 53,000 men, the reward for series of triumphs that many regarded as impossible, and then topped his previous feats by leading a raid up a frozen cliff face....

What made the experience of listening to The Black Count the most enjoyable?

Personally, I love this book, audio or book form. It feels like you are personally connected with the mid century intrigues, the daring brilliance and the political aspirations of this brash and sharp young man who inspired his young son. Simply, you can't help but continue listening. I highly recommend this most excellent book on a truly amazing man!

What did you like best about this story?

The man himself, Alexander Dumas, Sr. What a treasure trove of a find in this one man's life story that would become the essence of complete AWSOMENESS!

What about Paul Michael’s performance did you like?

He did this story well, carries it with polish and distinction like the subject himself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I love how his future father in law asks only for him to achieve a rank of Captain in the army before he could marry his daughter. But instead, by chance, Alexander Dumas returns to her father 4 ranks higher than Captain and marries the girl and his father in law is bursting with pride in such a man for his daughter.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Would you consider the audio edition of 14 to be better than the print version?

Definately, you just cant get the depth of the charachters until they come to life by audio. The cadence, the timbre, the personality, the emotions, they are all portrayed best by performance artists such as these talented narrarators.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 14?

While all the action is spectacuarly captured at the end, I most love charachter development in the beginning where we get to know each person in the story. But my favorite scenes are all the charachters simply getting to know each other on the rooftops, having a drink and enjoying the setting sun. Its something I can completely relate to and do with my friends currently. So while I love the action in the end, I really love the down time captured by the charachters.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

His ability to capture the personalities, their personalities with just his voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Easily I could have, but that would have simply been cheating myself out of savoring the moment. I could have listened in 1 day. But like a good bar of dark chocolate, nibbles of intense goodness an hour or two at a time is best.

    Any additional comments?

I loved this book so much I looked the author up on Facebook and told him I enjoyed his book and he totally messaged me back within 15 minutes of my post! How about that? An approachable author! Good just got better!

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.
