Maybe in a couple of years. The plot is already much too familiar - have I read/listened to this before?
Have I read/listened to this before? There is somethng about a good Nora Roberts book, but I didn't really find it here. I really like her style, and I really like her paranormal books. This one was cheating a little by using the familiar formula - but I guess that's the same as writing about all the members of a family or sci-fi all set on the same world so I'll accept it. It's a good thing she doesn't get into more descriptive sex - that's a weakness for her-one she avoided here by the G rating I'd give it.
Some of the narration was so good I was really sucked in. I loved the running off at the mouth main character - I talk too much when I'm nervous so it was fun and well done. Great accents and very easy (90% of the time) to tell the characters apart. Then she just got way too loud in the important or dramatic scenes. Tone down the drama and I'll give her 5 stars.
not one particular moment - but Nora made Iona's lack of family background subtle and poignent (wish i could spell)
Solid enjoyable read that was more that the sum of it's very weak parts. I'm not sure why, but I did enjoy it.
yes, a fun series
Natalie is pretty good at differentiating between the characters. She speaks almost too slowly and a bit too breathily for me. I don't search out her reads, but I don't avoid her either. Part of my hestitation in giving her an unqualified "yeah" is probably the book itself...
…which I really liked, but that isn't to say I didn't have any problems with it. I'm reminded it was written about a decade ago - do all her heroines have to be fearful virgins? Which leads to too drawn out sex scenes. I like a little heat in a book - Ms. Dodd does it better in her later books. I do like the plot. A little far-fetched, also what i like in a book! The hero comes off as a surprisingly sympathetic jerk and the heroine is strong and quirky. All in all a fun read/listen.
well, I can't stop listening, but I'm not sure why. The narrator is really weird. So overall - I think lukewarm is the best I can do - about the book, and in this review.
typical us against them. The bad guys were so hateful they were unbelievable. But for some reason I do want to know what will happen next. The plot development is an improvement over the last book so I have hope for the series.

The author needs grammer lessons. She still can't tell and adjective from an adverb and some sentence structure is just…poor. I'm still looking for my red pencil.
A better editor, a better narrator. I felt Amanda/Jayne just cranked this one out by cutting and pasting from a number of her other novels.
I am a big Amanda Quick fan but this has to be the worst book she has ever written. It totally lacked the quirky humor and quick wit typified by her prior heoroines and heroes. Too many plot lines and boring dialog. He said, She said… very limited vocabulary - I bet this rates about an 8th grade reading level.
Of course, my poor opinion of the story was contributed to by the horrible narrator. She was good at differentiating between the characters, but the weird pronunciations (Char-lot) and long inappropriate pauses gave the narration a blocky feeling and no flow. The accents were so exaggerated as to be farcical and the emotions either non-existant or totally overblown.
The crazy sister seemed superfluous.

medium - The story is too similar to Lora Leigh Breeds series. The book could have been improved with a bit of editing. The author never used adverbs properly and spoke in the passive voice too often. I wanted to get out my red pen,
I like a bit of sex, but really? The obvious allusion to bestiality got a bit repetitive, and the author used sex to link together every scene. The heroine was too submissive and had no real role in the story. Too bad cause her relationship with the female dorm could have been a stronger part of the story.
the narrator was amateur. She paused at the end of each line instead of the end of each sentence like a school kid readying poetry. Her inflections were too breathy on every sentence. She left all the consonants out of every contraction i.e. coont instead of couldn't. I almost gave up over this.
A little variation on the plot - Fury is angry, Fury wunt hurt me, fury is angry again, Fury wunt hurt me...
Just good enough to make me want to find out what happens with the other characters so I will give the next book a try. But that's it if it doesn't get better...
This is one of those stories that make you feel as if you CAN feel someone elses life. And reminds you that you can"t!! Normally I like my romance novels a little hot - this book was not at all. Yet the characters made my heart hurt. I loved it.

I haven't listened to this narrator before. It took me a while to get used to him as his style is a little aggressive. Many sentances start off more explosively than expected. He did a good job of making it easy to tell the different character apart but he made Rachael sound even wimpier that she was, or maybe she just was.His womens' voices were pretty good. He didn't use a grating falsetto - he did pitch his voice a little higher than the mens voices, but her relied more on intonation and timing to feminize them and I thought it worked well.
This book was a little lighter on the *hot* scenes that others by this author. The narrator did a good job when the going did get steamy-he didn't hesitate and he didn't sound unaffected either - I liked it!
I guess, I did. Even though I found myself taking to the characters - "don't be so stupid.." etc.
Really I want to give this a 3.5. The premise was good and I like books that are as much emotion driven as action driven so that was ok. But the dialog dragged. Seemed as though someone said " Are you ok?" on every page. Rachael's ordeal was pretty tramatic so I guess she deserves some slack but she did tend to internalize everything and then decide to talk to - her brothers in law? Get a clue girl - talk to your husband! And Ethan - big boys do cry. He spent so much time hesitating while he tried to cover his feelings that he was either emotionaly absent when Rachael needed him or actually physically absent from the room every time anything bad was about to go down.I am going to read the next in the series but if it doesn't pick up a bit I'm done.

no - Her performance was pretty good - a bit strident tone throughout. I liked her light Scots accents, Her plumy english accent a bit forced. Some strange pauses, like she stopped for a sip of water. A couple of times I thought I'd leaned on the pause button.

'fraid so.. I stay away from vampire novels in general but this author is really popular so I thought I'd give it a try. Sorry I wasted my credit.
The narrator spoooke waaaay tooooo sloooowly....... Also weird phrasing and dramatic sighs in strange places. The whinging female sounded pathetic and the male voices over emphasized.
I was disappointed. The plot lacked cohesion (I know, I can't spell, sorry) and consistancy.. Different events just kept piling up on each other with no clear direction. Secondary characters appeared and disappeared at random. The heroine was a whiney wimp and the hero hardly better.
And the sex scenes seemed to have been copied and pasted into the book at random. They seemed surprisingly cold. Surprising because they were fairly detailed, but almost clinical.I guess I just didn't like the book, although I think a better narrator might have made it bearable.
Didn't read the print - but really enjoyed the narrator.
It was really easy to identify which character was speaking - and her male voices were really very good. Most female readers try to make the voices too deep and lose inflection. Her men were not pitched too low (or too high) but instead relied on accent and inflection to make them male. Her accents sounded authentic too. I see that she does a lot of YA books. I hope she starts to do more adult, by which I mean grown up ;-), books.
Big improvement on Ms. Roberts' last few book - the Boonsboro trilogy read like a book of lists. I like the ending too - she resisted the temptation to just blow everything up and actually tried to solve the dilemma in which she placed her heroine.
